On the server there is a set of files that drive the workstation auto-updater. (I don't know how this works in enough detail to explain it, but it is worth looking at, for clues about what is missing... I am pretty sure Sage built this for Product Updates / hotfixes... with room for Master Developers to use the same feature to push things to workstations through the same auto-updater processes).

There could also be something leftover in the Links folder... and SY_ClassEnhancement

I have a customer with this (self-inflicted) issue. He had removed Vertex and reinstalled Avatax.
Existing clients work fine, but any new workstation throws an error in Sales Order Entry referencing a path that does not exist. It is looking for a tmp file, which we tried just dropping a file with that name, but it still errors out. Something was installed by wksetup when Vertex was installed that is now missing when running it.
I wonder if you try to install the upgraded client on a machine that didn't previously have Sage 100 installed if you won't experience the same issue.
Right now these guys are stuck without the ability to deploy any new workstations or remote desktop client. I didn't have great confidence that upgrading would fix this. We haven't tried it yet. I expected the only way to get this cleaned would be a fresh install at new version, install all ISVs they want to keep, re-customize all the UDFs, panels, etc and save them to drop in the upgraded/migrated system.

I can't tell if the issues with this upgrade revolve around discontinuing Vertex or if they are more general Sage issues with customized panels.
Customer remained on their production server using Vertex ( I did NOT remove Vertex on production since the customer needed to keep working)
- I installed the latest Sage 100 - WITHOUT Vertex
- Sage allowed me to migrate data
- I used the uninstall on the system configuration screen to "remove" Vertex on the upgrade side ( not sure this did much )
- Installed Avalara
- Several panels give those odd error 65 messages which I find often relate to mis-aligned fields on panels
- I went into Custom Office and in almost all cases removed a button ( I think the button name started with VTX ) for Vertex. I only had to remove one or two VTX type buttons. I saved the panel. Then I had to go back in and find where the Avalara button was because initially it seemed like the Vertex button was overlaying Avalara.
- Once I moved the Avalara button I could see it on the appropriate screens ( typically next to the sales tax amount where the Avalara button is used to recalculate tax )
There's probably more fun to come - this is just what I've had to do in the initial steps to stage the upgrade without re-installing Vertex.
Note: As of 11/19/24 the reason that the customer discontinued use of Vertex is that there was no connector available for Sage 100 past Sage 100 v2021. Despite multiple inquiries the customer was not able to get a firm date on when/if there might be an upgraded connector.

Shannon did you ever get anywhere with an automated uninstall of Vertex? I have a similar situation and while I tried the uninstall from within Sage it seems as if Vertex left a bunch of customized panels that I suspect need to be manually updated to remove any vertex fields?
