Currently performing a test upgrade from Sage 100 v2019 Premium to v2022 Premium.

    Client uses Unified Login.

    ·        If we launch the Sage 100 Client (v2022) on their Dev Server, we get a message that says "Access Denied. Contact your System Administrator."

    ·        If we run Sage 100 in MAS90 mode (on the Dev server), we can launch Sage with our Windows Authenticated user.

    ·        If we log into the Terminal Server and launch the Sage 100 Client, our user Authenticates and we can access Sage without the error message.

Why would a user authenticate correctly on a Terminal Server but not authenticate from the Application server?

I have called Sage and looked at every article I can find on the error.  Sage stated that there is some mismatch for Windows Authentication from the Dev server, but how do I prove what it is?

If it works in mas90 mode, then it may be the service.  Have you tries changing the service logon, or stopping the service and running the host as an app?

When you resolve this please post what ultimately worked. I suspect this is one that other users could encounter. I'm with Doug - I'd look at that service account. I am not a Microsoft expert ( not even close ) though it sounds like make the account running the service can't authenticate users in the directory possibly because the service account is not a domain account.

This is a tricky area to get help from Sage with because the required security permissions are not well documented and the "go to" answer for a lot of these is to login with a domain global administrator account which is not something that companies with formal IT departments are increasingly willing to do.

Suggestion: Temporarily elevate permissions on whatever account is running the service so that it's an admin and see if that fixes the issue. Then work backwards in terms of removing permissions from that account.

Did you check the Activity Log to confirm the ID being rejected is the one you think it is?  (A mapped drive with alternate credentials, or "Run As" credentials... might be throwing things off).

Ok, we were able to resolve it, although I am not 100% sure how to explain it.

    On the Dev Server...

    • shut down the service
    • started the Application Config
    • launched Sage 100 Premium in MAS90 mode
    • when clicking on any task, we received an error message...

Error: "Another task is attempting to start up. Wait for this task to start before invoking another task" when starting any task

    • Attached the KB and found that the SOTA.ini file contained "Logon = YES"; removed and saved the change
    • Shut down the Application Config
    • Launched the v2022 Service
    • Launched the v2022 Client = Success!

For that "another task is attempting to start..." message, make sure PEP is disabled.  (If the PEP server is down / slow / blocked by a firewall, that can certainly cause problems).

Thank you.  I will double check that, as well.
