  • 1.  "Unable to print SO_TaxJournal.rpt" Error

    Posted 12-09-2025 20:03

Hi all – I hope someone has some new suggestions for me. A client of mine encounters this error occasionally during the Sales Journal posting and I have been able to get through it in the past by making sure all invoices are assigned AVATAX (as they will occasionally use NONTAX). Today though, that is not the issue and I have been spinning my wheels all day trying to determine if the issue is data, third-party or Paperless-related. The update process gets through the Daily Sales Journal and then gets stuck at the Sales Tax Journal portion:

This is what I have tried so far:

    1. Analyzed all invoice records for bad dates and glanced at other fields like Ship To Addresses, Tax Classes, etc.
    2. Copied the data to a test company and was able to get to the Gross Profit Journal after both previewing and printing the Sales Journal.
    3. I can get to the Gross Profit Journal in the live company only if I select to Preview. If I select to Print, the error occurs and a .CAT file is hung in the Paperless Office directory (screenshot below).
    4. Rebooted the app server.
    5. Tried the update from a client server.
    6. Uninstalled/reinstalled the Sage 100 PDF Converter and added a custom Port.
    7. Installed the latest build of Avalara.
    8. Ran the AR Sales Tax Recalculation for SO Invoices.

Please let me know if you have battled this before and what worked to resolve. Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Kevin - I had already been through those pages without any luck. The client decided to move and then post a small amount of invoices from the original batch until all were updated, and the error never occurred when breaking up the batch...so we never knew what happened in the first place.

Amber, now that you mentioned that you were able to post everything by break the batch up into smaller chunks, it reminds me of a recent issue I had with PL but it was a different message and task, it was AR Statement printing but the message only happened when one particular customer was included in the selection criteria.  When the customer was not excluded, it would throw a similar message and after trying a bunch of the usual steps, I remembered that the Amyuni driver seems to have a timeout, I'm not sure of what the value is but this statement report had been modified to include some sub-reports and this one particular customer had a bunch of records that triggered the sub-reports and caused it to take longer than other customers.  The client was on Advanced so I enabled the C/S ODBC driver for their user and the report was able to generate in time to be processed by the Amyuni driver.

I also saw this related content, seems to be the message as yours.

unable to print so_taxjournal.rpt. The operation completed successfully. | Sage 100

Do you recall how many entries were in the batch originally?

I wonder if you were running into API throttling or something else is going on in the register program/report related to Avatax that is causing it to take longer than usual.

Do you recall how long it took to preview the entire report?

That's a great suggestion...I don't think it hurts to have CSODBC configured so I'll put that in. The client has on average about 125 shipments/day in one batch and it did not/does not take long to see the various pieces of paper pop up...maybe about 15-20 seconds leading up to the Gross Profit Journal.
