unable to cast com object of type..and pvxwin32exe.config from 2018 doesn't help

  • 1.  unable to cast com object of type..and pvxwin32exe.config from 2018 doesn't help

    Posted 11-17-2020 15:26
Upgrade from 2017 Premium to 2020.1 Premium.  On one workstation, the pvxwin32exe.config fix does not work in 2017.  Any ideas on what could be the issue?

Is is the Sage reporting stuff that doesn't work OR your BOI stuff? If BOI, then copy pvxwin32.exe.config to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage\Common Components\ but then rename to pvxcom.exe.config

I thought you needed to copy pvxwin32.exe.config over when upgrading to v2018 only, but not for v2019 or v2020 ?? But I'm not really sure about that either  ...

AFAIK you need to do it with 2020, and I tested before on the server and one other workstation, and I got the error in 2017 before copying over the 2018 file, and then the error went away after I copied it over.  But the next workstation is not cooperating...

It's related to the CR patch that comes with v2018+, when you want to print from an older version.

Does the one workstation affected perhaps have another program installed which might have also patched CR runtime to an even higher level?  Any errors printing in v2020?  Re-run the workstation installer As Admin?

Are they using the Sage odbc print driver?  Maybe the check box in user maintenance is incorrect.

Is that workstation running Fixed Assets? I've seen conflicts there as well.

Are you maybe running into the following?

Some of you may have already resolved this issue by reviewing KB ID 86964, but note the "Warning" message:

    Warning: Do not use pvxwin32.exe.config from Sage 100 2019 and higher on Sage 100 2016 & Sage 100 2017. You may use pvxwin32.exe.config from Sage 100 2018 on Sage 100 2016 & Sage 100 2017.

Oh, it's premium.  Ignore my comment about Sage odbc print driver.  It's irrelevant with premium.

On another note I have corrected Crystal print errors by copying from a known good computer and then registering crpe32.dll.

    Thanks to all
    Uninstall/reinstall did't fix it
    pvxcom.exe.config made no difference
Found an old Crystal reports 11.5 install and removed that and rebooted - no difference

You should compare the dates on the Crystal dlls (such as crpe32.dll) on the computer that is not working to the known good computer.

Another uninstall and reinstall of 2020 after the Crystal 11.5 removal seems to have worked...
