Ugh - doing a 3.40 to 2014 upgrade, at the point of installing the 3.71 and getting the 'general file transfer error = -1'. I had client download the program files from my link, there used to be a kb article on the old KB but we all know what happened to that. Does anyone have the KB article or suggestions? I'm installing the 371 on a Win XP (no server) and then moving to a Win8 but have to get past this first.

I have some notes on an old 3.71 upgrade which leads me to believe that I had to copy the folder \mas90 off the server to a local location, install the upgrade, copy the whole thing back.

I found this general info on the web: General File Transfer error Symptoms: - Using Windows 2000 or Windows XP. - Installing CompanionLink/DoubleLook/DoubleNotes. - Error message: 'General file transfer error. Please check your target location and try again. Error number -3.' Explanation: In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, it is possible to turn off support for 8dot3 filename creation. If you do so, then the installation process for our software will fail. Fix: Click on the Start menu and click on Run. In the Run box, type regedt32, and then click OK. In the Registry Editor, in the lefthand window, click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE. Click the plus sign next to SYSTEM. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet. Click the plus sign next to Control. Click on the FileSystem folder. In the righthand window, find NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation, then right-click this and choose Modify. In the Value Data box, type the number 0. Click OK. Exit the Registry Editor. Restart your computer. Retry the installation process.

Thanks Doug, I'll go through that document, also in the processing of transferring their 351 mas90 to my workstation to see if that works
