Sage 100

Trying to update a CI_Item UDF but I get the message ""The UDF update cannot be performed at this time because ""CI_Item"" is in use in the following companies. XXX"" v2016 5.30.2 I just rebooted the server and stopped any and all services that I can see related to Sage 100 - Starship, KnowledgeSync, EDI, CRM. WHAT AM I MISSING???

Is it Std, Advanced or Premium?

Advanced. The only thing I can think of is that they are using ACS's In-Transit Whse enhancement. (Per Sage's knowledgebase.)

Checked task manager for rogue pvxwin?

Yep and as I said, I have rebooted the server.

I don't recall ACS in transit running anything outside of Sage itself. Is there anything in task scheduler that may be running at startup?

This is the third time I've tried which is why I'm thinking there is something blocking the update - is it the enhancement? I don't know but it wouldn't surprise me.

No Insynch and no DSD mirroring.

Can you check the sessions info on host/application program and see what else is logged in?

Yes they do! I see it running in Task Scheduler.

Go to task manager you will see two tasks, stop them both,

^^correction task scheduler just stop the tasks

I can only end one of them.

Any other thoughts @MoiraGoggin ??

Which run is still running?

Change the time freq that it runs (remember the existing settings)

You should be able to set it to Sunday at 2 am, that will stop it for now.

Try changing the service to manual and rebooting

I changed it to Sunday and it now shows disabled but I still get the message. @JeffFiddelman what service does it use?

batch file, odbc, can you switch both task to manual and reboot?

Hello Therese, I suggest you check for an orphaned session on a workstation, wherein an open process pvxwin32 is running even though the launcher is not displaying. This is Advanced so any processes would be on the server.

Untested idea: Stop the service. Rename the parent folder (above MAS90). Go in through the back-door and add your UDF that way, then rename the parent folder back afterwards. Any external connection should be broken with the different path.

Interesting concept @KevinMoyes. I may give it a shot later this evening.

Therese are there any mods? If so temporarily rename the Links folder then try your UDF Update again. If it works rename back the Links folder. Have everyone out while doing this.

The reason I mention mods is we had a client with several mods who got this same error but pointing to AR_Customer in use whenever they added UDF to Customer Master. I asked @MarcosDeluna to take a look since he was adding another mod for me for this client. He discovered this Sage design bug with UDF Update. In short the original MD had an override in Sales Journal Update (very common) and it was creating a new customer object in the ON_CREATE function. This was opening the AR_Customer file. But the problem was the UDF Update for Customer Master was touching the Sales Journal Update (why??) and causing the file in use problem itself. We don't know the why but we know the original M/D didn't violate any Sage rules, we might have done the same. Still, Marcos had to move that line from the ON_CREATE to a different function and that worked. So perhaps your mod is also opening up CI_Item in the ON_CREATE of one of the Update programs. If renaming Links worked then you may also see a _UPD file in Links

@AlnoorCassim I'm getting the AR_Customer in use (and it's not). Do you have a way to see what is pinging the AR_Customer? This install does have many mods and is using SIA. If I copy the Sage data out to a different directory, I can create a UDF without issue in MAS90 mode in that copy. Tells me something / service / etc... is pinging the program. I also have this issue if I shut the service down and run the live instance in MAS90 mode on the live install, not luck. . Thoughts?

John rename the \Links folder then try to run the UDF Update. Alternatively, in \Links if you have a SO_SalesJournal_upd.pvc file, you can just rename that file instead of the whole \Links folder then run UDF Update. If either works, then rename back so you don't break the mods but you've now run into this design bug where a legal M/D override to SO_SalesJournal_upd.pvc is causing the In Use error.

No luck, I tried your tips including the .pvc rename but still the same issue. There must be a program or something reading the Sage folder as I can't even rename it. Service is off, CRM Integration is off, EDI is off, Task Scheduler is off.

Alternate approach... If I take the copy into a new directory and create the UDF's I need. Do you know what folders \ files I'd need to copy into the LIVE setup? Good Idea/Bad Idea - I'm open. Thanks,

Done that too... No worries, I know it's an odd one. There seems to be several files in the LOCK folder I just noticed. Not exactly sure if there's something related to that... I appreciate the input.

You may be able to see in Computer Management if something is connecting (and locking a file through the network).

Are there still any pvxwin32s running with everything shut down? I had this happen recently - remove the extra files out of the links folder did the trick and then put them back.
