Trying to change the valuation method of an item from Average to Lot but the valuation change utility is only offering FIFO/LIFO. Has this utility never worked to change to a Lot valuation method? What am I missing? TIA.

Do you have Qty On Hand?

That utility should allow changes to Lot valuation as well. Quantity on hand does have to be zeroed out first, and also check that there is no residual value even though the quantities are gone.

No qty on hand (as you can see above and this is a new item although they did do a receipt (which we adjusted out). Will have to check on any value remaining.

Is the product type KIT by any chance?

Hmm, this is what the Help says about Kit product types: ""The kit can have an associated lot/serial number."" Yet you get an error when initially setting up an item. How can you change a kit item to a non-kit item? I changed the bill to standard (yes, they had a kit bill set up for this item) but it still won't let me change it.

I've had to play this game before. As long as the bill exists in Bill maintenance you can't change the item product type from Kit to anything else. You have to delete the Bill of Material. if it is lengthy and you don't want to recreate it afterwards, you can copy the bill to some other item temporarily, but that is where the games begin. :)

Thanks @DavidOverholt - will give that a try.

You could try VI (or DFDM) the BOM header from Kit to Standard, run the valuation then VI it back to kit. That has worked for me in the past on other issues. Try on first to see the result.

I can change the bill to Standard without going through DFDM but as David said, it still doesn't allow changing the item type from Kit.

Do you have any open Sales Orders using the Kit?

    No, no orders whatsoever.

And @DavidOverholt wins! I copied the bill to an engineering bill then deleted the original bill and was then able to change the product type! Yay!!
