Trouble shooting a slow Sage Intelligence consolidated report generation (Sage 100 Advanced 2016) A 24 company code consolidated financial report run from server, via Report Manager, takes 5-8 minutes to generate and open in Excel. However, users are reporting up to 90 minutes to run that same report on their workstations. I'm not sure where to start to determine what may be causing such a large time difference between the two. Any ideas?

I usually start by blaming the network guys. It will either be them and they resolve it (oops) or they will do a great job pointing out to me what the real cause is. Seriously, I find this to be something in the infrastructure.

Those are good thoughts but was hoping to have something to point them in the right direction. It's a VM server and, if it's need more of something it could easily be deployed. However if it's a workstation / network issue I'm not sure where they should start.

Is the CS ODBC turned on for this user? Has it always been this slow or just started?

Yes, CS ODBC is on for every user. They've just began using SI there isn't a past performance benchmark.

Found these system specs for SI (listed for X3 but whatever) - I'll see if we can up RAM and use 64-bit Excel **Computer** - CPU greater than 1.3GHz **Memory** - (RAM) A minimum of 4 GB RAM is recommended. This will vary depending on the data volumes users are reporting on. Larger data volumes will require more RAM. For data sets larger than 100 GB at least 8 GB of RAM should be used. **Disk Space** -350 MB of hard drive space **Operating System** -A 64 bit operating system is recommended to ensure performance. Microsoft Excel **Excel Versions** - Microsoft Excel 2007, Microsoft Excel 2010 (32 and 64), Microsoft Excel 2013 (32 and 64 bit) It is recommended to make use of 64 bit versions of Excel to ensure the best performance, 32 bit versions of Excel limit the usage of available RAM. If your dataset is larger than 100 GB it is recommended that you use a 64 bit edition of Excel.

Well, if it pulls that fast on the server, then it would appear to be a network traffic issue. Are the workstations all set with a 100 MB connection? Do they have a GB switch you could try?

How many years of data are they pulling? Do you need to pull it all or can you put in a filter to just pull the last 3 years or so. I had a company with 15 years of history and 80 branches (in 1 company) and they too had to run the report at the server. They have now chosen to purge history and report runs very quick on the workstation. So it's generally all about the network and the data load. Is this the only report that takes so long or do all their reports using the 24 companies take this long?

Number of years of history varies per company. I did find an article on adding Pass Through Variables to the various Report Design Add-in connectors. I'm going to test and it it works, problem solved, else I'll take up your suggestion @NancyHanson . Thank you.
