Good question. We are without power and Internet to almost 50% of Connecticut due to the storm.
Power is fairly easy to resolve with a generator.
Internet I’ve learned is tougher because even if you try to tether from a cell phone so is everyone else so that may not work either.
You’re left with traveling to a different location with power/internet ( if available ).
First, I feel like payroll is no longer a viable offering for me unless I want to be in the payroll service bureau business. ( I don’t ). It’s too complex, too deadline driven, too many changes.
Second, it seems the only way to backup against processing disruption is by using a host and 100% DD to employees. That way you primarily need Internet and power with less concern on printing and lining up checks.
My .02 is leave this hassle to the payroll processing companies. I feel like the bulk of payroll use ( except when time collection is integrated elsewhere to Sage ) is because the customer knows they’re getting payroll processing far cheaper from a VAR than a payroll company like ADP or Paychex.
