    The email announcement:
    Dear Partners,

Our company is at a crucial turning point where we begin to fully realize our potential in the US market. The time is right to accelerate our transition into a great SaaS company by fully combining Sage's experience of growth at scale with Sage Intacct's high-growth cloud-native leadership.

This morning, Sage CEO Steve Hare announced, effective October 1, we will bring together one fully integrated US go to market and one fully integrated Medium segment organization with one common purpose and one aligned channel.

What this means for Sage North America partners
This means one message to market, one unified approach to partners, and one clear focus on beating our competitors.

Harmonizing our market and our cloud-connected and cloud teams means that when a Sage customer using Sage 50, Sage 100, or Sage 300 wants to move to the cloud, Sage Intacct will be the natural choice. And when our customers look for people management, Sage People will be there to support them.

Providing Sage-to-Sage migration will enable us to win in the market. This really is the best of both worlds-and the key to meeting our ambition of becoming a great SaaS business.

We have made some early decisions:
    • As of today, Marc Linden, Managing Director for Sage Intacct, will report to Lee Perkins and lead the unified Medium segment. Marc will also continue to lead the Sage Intacct team through the end of September.
    • Following a handover from Marc, as of October 1, Nancy Harris will lead a newly unified North America go to market, inclusive of Sage Intacct.
    • Chris Rose, SVP of Sales for Sage Intacct, will report to Nancy Harris in an expanded role leading all US Medium segment sales.
    • Reporting to Chris will be Taylor Macdonald, who runs Sage Intacct's partner channel, and me, as I continue to lead the North America partner channel.
Thee following colleagues will continue to lead their areas of the Medium segment:
    • Oliver Herzig – Product for BMS
    • Rob Sinfield – Product for Sage X3
    • Gaelle Bourven – Product Engineering for Sage X3
We will keep you informed over the coming weeks as we shape the organization into a single global segment and the single US go to market team-ensuring our new ways of working are operational as we head into the new fiscal year on October 1.

    Looking forward
Let me reassure you, nothing will change for our customers. However, we are sure this move will help us bring more customers onto our native cloud products as these solutions become the cloud destination for Sage customers from across the Medium segment portfolio.

We are laser-focused on our vision to become a great SaaS company and believe the changes we have made today give us the runway for success in FY21. For now, we need to stay focused on closing out FY20 strong. This is a big quarter for us and I need you to keep doing what you are doing!

Finally, I'd like to invite you to join me for a special All-Hands partner webcast this Friday, August 14, at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET-with guests Nancy Harris, Marc Linden, Taylor Macdonald, and Chris Rose-when we will talk more about these updates. Please make sure to register for the event.

    Thanks for your partnership.

How many oxymorons can you find in the following statement:

With X3 eliminating their direct sales team as well as their professional services team, and considering that in this realignment that X3 will not be under the channel management of everything else - what are the odds Sage is shopping a spinoff off of that product?

Sage seems to be marketing a broad market strategy approach rolling up to Intacct, while all the X3 events in the last year+ have been focusing X3 on very specific markets within manufacturing and wholesale distribution, and really no where else. More of a niche market product, which makes sense for X3.

Paul's analysis makes a lot of sense to me in terms of what Sage didn't specifically announce during the town hall but which is likely their ultimate strategy.

It's really hard for me to see Sage 100 as a viable competitor in 20 years, although I wish I were wrong. I never got a real answer about how Sage would find Providex programmers, and I still hear nothing realistic about a true browser UI for it. So it seems doomed to always relying on some flavor of RDP for remote server access, traditional upgrade procedures, and a continuation of 3rd party enhancements where those developers have slowly-decreasing incentives to keep up.

The current spate of enhancements and attention from Sage is great, needed, and very helpful. Expansion on web-connectedness via Web APIs is terrific. Still, I don't see how it moves a migrating customer to select Sage 100 over other available options (unless the prospect has significant comfort with Sage from previous employer).

The scuttlebutt I hear is that Acumatica regularly wins migrating Sage 100 users, and I see very little evidence that Sage 100 new logo wins are frequent. I don't see evidence of new partners picking up Sage 100 as current ones retire or move on, and that's surely disconcerting to Sage.

So, agreeing with Paul, Sage management was anxious to start the market awareness of Intacct as a cloud migration target competitive with Acumanta (even though only in some verticals), and X3 to consider for the Distrib and Mfg. I suspect X3 is there to help buy time until Intacct has enough build-out in Distrib and Mfg, and then X3 continues as the higher-end offering.

This All Hands meeting strengthens my belief that Sage will do everything it can to keep the Sage 100 installed base in place, away from Acumatica; they need the time to have better cloud migration options to offer. The recent enhancements and focus on a viable partner channel will continue. We'll continue to see the web ads for Sage 100, if for no other reason than they help reinforce current customers that it is active. Meanwhile, I really do hope that Sage will unveil the user profiles and sales methodologies we can use to find new Sage 100 customers.

Can we please have a panel of these 6 Sage members and ask on a live call to each post an AP Invoice in a distinct Sage product (50, 100, 300, CRE) and THEN ask how you are going to convert users to Sage Intacct?

A great SaaS company that has a technical knowledge base with Twitter / Facebook features and horrendous search capabilities?  Internal admin processes that feature faxes and Excel pricing spreadsheets?  Umm... really?

    What just happened here?
Why did we have a Friday 3 pm ET all-hands?
What was so urgent that required all of the channel to gather for a Q&A?

Other than SEOS which I'll wait and see what restrictions come with it - I can't say what was really new here.

    I skipped it.
Marketing / sales types don't understand the meaning of the words "urgent" and "important" in the same way technical / operations people do.

"all hands" gets thrown out more than is appropriate I think.  I think no notice, Friday at 3 is like when the white house holds a press conference during the super bowl or on the weekend.  Nothing to see!

Critically important technical information gets written silently into the KB (no announcement), with customers / partners discovering it only after a ton of pain...
...yet "all hands" must listen to the Spin Doctors' latest tune.
Brilliant management!  What a spectacular vision of how to build a successful operation!
