@Michael McDonald - As a small business operator, your primary focus consulting. I suggest that it should also include a healthy dose of relationship management. By allowing them to focus on the software, you will continue losing accounts to the shiny new stuff. Sell RELATIONSHIPS so that they call you first, not the CPA who has a different agenda. New kids on the block don't care what you did 10-15 years ago. They have current issues to solve. Be the one that helps them navigate those issues!

@Jeff Schwenk The reasons my client (a SAGE 100 user and client for over 30 years) is thinking about changing to SAGE Intacct:
1) May not have been told the TCO (total cost of ownership) of moving to SAGE Intacct, because:
2) Their outside CPA firm is now a local SAGE Intacct reseller
3) This is the third newest controller that I do not have a personal relationship with, my bad.
4) This is a non-profit organization that actually does fund accounting, I taught the original controller (30 years ago) how to handle year end GL fund posting with SAGE 100. It worked for two subsequent controllers; the newest guy might have a different opinion.
5) Like @Wayne Schulz said this is a GLAPAR installation, so maybe SAGE Intacct is a better fit..
6) The new controller may have seen that many organizations like my client use SAGE Intacct in other parts of the country.
7) If what @Doug Higgs said "Sage Intacct includes hosting, backup, server and database upgrades, Intacct automatically upgrades a few times a year. End user looks at total cost of ownership" is true, then maybe the internal IT Dept will be the next to go!
