In Mike Ritchie's presentation he had a slide that detailed TLS 1.2 compliance by version AND updates.

More detail than the one I had...does anyone have it????

    Karen,
We have some old heavily customized companies that went off-plan.
Do the hot-fixes on older versions only work for customers "on-plan"?

They will as far as I know. It may be worth a call to support to confirm.

We generally don't provide PU's / hotfixes for customers who are off plan, if the date of the PU / hotfix release is beyond when they went off plan... because they aren't entitled to anything new after they stop paying maintenance.  I expect Sage to say the same thing.
However, if they are running a functional system without paying Sage, I don't see how not being able to contact the license server would cause a problem... but of course, anything is possible.

The main question I have for this is if the client (off plan, old perpetual license) needs to move to a new server.  For Standard, you can just copy the files.  For Advanced / Premium, you'd need to run the server install... which might not work, if Sage locks down the license server.

DO the newer releases of Sage "phone home" if on perpetual?  What would be the point?  Sage can't shut it down as it is "perpetual" AKA "forever"  So go ahead and reinstall on a new server.  Keys should work.  Whether or not old Sage gets along with the new OS is a different story.  Akin to running v2023 on a WIN 7 workstation.  A good technician can make it function.  But the question is "should you"?  I draw the line at PU's and hotfixes released after they went off plan.  But WHEN do you just walk away?

When you use perpetual keys, it loads the module listing of what's on the key.  Whether that list is encoded in the keys, or the result of a query to the license service (which translates the key into the module listing) is not something I am aware of.
I guess if you're able to install Sage 100 server, using perpetual keys, on a machine that has absolutely no connection to the internet, that would be a good way to test.

I don't know for sure however my guess is it's encoded in the keys.  Several years ago there used to be a separate key for each module.  To make registration more efficient Sage changed to one key.  I'll bet Alnoor, Carmen, and others that have worked at Sage know the secret however they probably signed an NDA and can't disclose.

Back in the day, I would say it had to be encoded in the key, because not everyone had internet connections.  However, if a key "got out" it could be used an unlimited number of times, which is something software companies started preventing (with web license verification at install).
I've thought of asking on Sage City, but expect Sage wouldn't give an honest technical answer there.  Hmm... maybe in the Partners section.

Note that the portion about a patch that is available should not be publicized to customers unless they are in need of it. In other words - don't put it in your newsletter/website or any customer mailings.

@Lourdes Sobrino Here is a better copy of the chart you are looking for. I found it in SAGE City searching for TLS. My client's IT Dept brought the v2018 PU #10 to my attention after I provided a quote to upgrade to the Controller. Guess who is now looking at SAGE Intacct. Bye, bye, long term SAGE 100 client.

@Michael McDonald - I am not following.  The few times I priced Intacct for a Sage 100 user, the subscription pricing was 2-3 times more than Sage 100.  That did not include any migration/implementation/consulting fees.  What is making Intacct so incredibly attractive now?

    >>What is making Intacct so incredibly attractive now?

In my experience - at least two things:

    1. The customer hasn't fully digested the price yet and doesn't realize it's recurring and that the "starts at" price is targeted at $20,000
    2. Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. Sage and the various ISVs who love them have done a marginal job of making the upgrade process as pain-free as possible. It's almost like they're daring people who pay annually for new versions to install them. (And Sage has zero incentive to improve those for any of their on-prem offerings which they are now treating as mostly a migration candidate platform)

Sage Intacct is something I would strongly recommend for specific industries where the company also has an appropriate budget:

    • GLAPAR - Non-Profit, Medical, Services, basically anything not using inventory ( though Sage says - for the past 20 years - that a beautiful new inventory is coming real soon now )
    • Companies where their IT is tied down so tight that it's a fistfight to get proper rights to install and access Sage 100 ( ie - IT is very unwilling to grant users the appropriate access rights)

I have converted maybe 3-4 100 customers to Intacct and the driving force is the client wanted a) something modern; b) they were tired of upgrades and c) a cloud-based system.

Intacct does have a lot of great things in it – but like any ERP, it has weaknesses as well.

Typically the cost is 2-3 times greater than 100 so I have to get creative – discounts from Sage, discounts on service, maybe bundle the services into a monthly payment, etc.

But without a doubt, the key to me is the client that really wants to switch, and then the higher expense is easier to handle.

I might add that we also do a comparison of Sage 100 with an upgrade per year and the cost of servers and maintenance compared to Intacct and the gap is not as great as it seems (but discounts help for sure).

Sage Intacct includes hosting, backup, server and database upgrades, Intacct automatically upgrades a few times a year.  End user looks at total cost of ownership.

@Jeff Schwenk The reasons my client (a SAGE 100 user and client for over 30 years) is thinking about changing to SAGE Intacct:

    1)  May not have been told the TCO (total cost of ownership) of moving to SAGE Intacct, because:

    2) Their outside CPA firm is now a local SAGE Intacct reseller

    3) This is the third newest controller that I do not have a personal relationship with, my bad.

    4) This is a non-profit organization that actually does fund accounting, I taught the original controller (30 years ago) how to handle year end GL fund posting with SAGE 100. It worked for two subsequent controllers; the newest guy might have a different opinion.

    5) Like @Wayne Schulz said this is a GLAPAR installation, so maybe SAGE Intacct is a better fit..

    6) The new controller may have seen that many organizations like my client use SAGE Intacct in other parts of the country.

    7) If what @Doug Higgs said "Sage Intacct includes hosting, backup, server and database upgrades, Intacct automatically upgrades a few times a year.  End user looks at total cost of ownership" is true, then maybe the internal IT Dept will be the next to go!

@Michael McDonald - As a small business operator, your primary focus consulting.  I suggest that it should also include a healthy dose of relationship management.  By allowing them to focus on the software, you will continue losing accounts to the shiny new stuff.  Sell RELATIONSHIPS so that they call you first, not the CPA who has a different agenda.  New kids on the block don't care what you did 10-15 years ago.  They have current issues to solve.  Be the one that helps them navigate those issues!
