Thoughts? This came in via web We would like to modify our Payroll module to increase the department code length from 2 characters to 3 or possibly 4 characters. We are in the convenience store business and have multiple locations. Stores numbered through 99 have department numbers that are the same as the location number. Location 100 has A0 as the department code, 111 is B1, 201 is K1. However, we are acquiring an additional 63 locations and we will not be able to continue the same scheme. We want the department number to be the same as the location number. Can you help us with that?

You could answer: ""The department code length is hard coded in the program; it cannot be changed.

I have had encountered this issue many times before and we currently have a client with 53 locations and 4 payroll departments within each location. The 2 digit department limitation is a significant problem; no way around it. Sage knows it is a problem and has known that for many years now and have done nothing about it. I asked a MD for pricing to expand the department field and the quotation and was basically told that it would be a huge change and very costly...and Sage would no longer support the payroll application. What I ended up doing was just blocking out departments in blocks of 5 (4 needed now plus one for potential future expansion and using Access to create any reports that they needed. Not an ideal solution, but it works. The client process payroll for around 1500 employees a year. Good luck to you.

Has there been any further word on the SQL payroll yet? I remember hearing it would be the same or very similar to the Accpac payroll, which has class codes which accommodate up to 6 characters.

Abra payroll allows for 5 processing segments per employee (department, division, etc.)

Wayne, piece of cake for Abra. Phil, I'm pretty sure that Abra SQL is Sage Payroll. I don't think we'll ever see MAS payroll moved to BF or SQL.

OK, I had it backwards. I just found a post on Wayne's site (http://www.s-consult.com/2010/10/22/sage-common-payroll-announced-for-mas200-sql-mas500-abra-erp-x3-and-accpac/) that said MAS 200 SQL would have Sage Common Payroll in 4.45 in November 2010. Has anyone seen any further puffs of this from Sage?

Location processing. Pr-1019. It was a extended solution but DSD upgraded it to 4.40. Use location for locations and the department for the department. I use it for a 120 store company

Although pr-1019 uses 2 digits for location too so it may not help.
