This is an interesting approach for Infor - who has apps that are as elderly as most of Sage's. They don't appear to be going the ""slap a connector on them and hope nobody notices the graying hairline"" but instead are trying to modernize with some (gasp) R&D? http://www.informationweek.com/software/enterprise-applications/infor-bets-500-million-on-enterprise-app/240153410

Admittedly this revitalization is all subject to interpretation and Info may only be slapping the same type coat of paint as Sage. Still it's an interesting approach at revitalizing aging apps.

I don't know who this is aimed at. Will this sway customers dumping their current app? Or is it meant to keep current customers from leaving? It could help a lot with the latter, as the interface seems aimed at data entry and discovery. For the former, I don't know what they currently lose new deals over. For Sage 100, functionality dissatisfaction doesn't seem to be over data input and discovery. It seems more about Cloud compatibility, fear of being stuck on old tech, and missing features (bins, WO+JC on Framework, etc.). It doesn't sound like the Infor announcement addresses any of the those. Sage 100/300's challenges are that current customers mostly have functionality that works for them, and new customers that need the missing functionality go elsewhere. Sage has decided that the technical inability of either to be truly cloud-based trumps andy other considerations in competitiveness, so they don't bother with the bin-location type functionality fixes.
