is it just me or is SI still a PITA to use? It doesn't play well in a run as an app in a remote environment. Yes, the IT folks has everything locked down. It runs smoothly for about a week, then WHAM, another error blows the user out of the water. Then you have to get IT on the line, yada, yada, yada. Fix it then 10 days later, WHAM, you are bitten again.

Many of the control tools IT uses are dynamic in that they ""learn"" and change how they are monitoring the network and outside access. It's necessary since the external attacks are constantly changing. I'm not taking the IT side by any means. They also forget a lot of things and mess up on their own. As for SI, I have never found it to be very friendly - perhaps the South African heritage coming out. Syspro is the same way, and it's also from South Africa. (And if you think I'm making this up, watch a few films or television series from there - most are depressing.) Truthfully, I'm not sure I have ever really liked any of the report writers we've been saddled with over the years. F9 is probably the easiest, but it only does GL.

Let us direct you to another, equally unhelpful area.

It works on our test VM with ABX company and one user. What's your problem?

I like SI. Far superior to the other reporting utilities out there and greater flexibility. You can even hit other data that has nothing to do with Sage data which is something I find quite intriguing. The one thing I don't like about it is that it dumps so much data into hidden tabs which can bloat the spreadsheet and make it slow. In some cases, it's easy enough to filter the data so there are ways to resolve that issue, but it's still a kludge, regardless. Make no mistake. I don't think it's necessarily the end-all and be-all but much certainly not a problematic system.

Agree with @LouWagner SI does offer a wide range of connections and leveraging Excel gives it lots of features. Use it to link data from 3 separate products for a customer - they can't live without now; it cut down reporting time and gave them more accurate info.

IMHO, SI is very good in the hands of an experienced consultant. I've not yet found an end user who can use it without training. The data bloat is a problem without filters and the documentation is non existent. The videos demonstrate a specific process without describing the theory. I do a lot of Access ptq to get non-financial data so to me, it's only good for consolidations and summary financials.

Most of my clients are able to do what they need to do but for the sake of speed, I did have to get most of them set up from the outset. Training from Sage is limited for the end user. The better training is in the certification classes but even that leaves some things to be desired. A couple of my clients are real Excel junkies so they are able to push it to the limit and get some fairly spectacular results with only a slight amount of input from me. As I tell most of the people I work with on SI, it's not really a Sage product, it's an Excel product that briefly talks to Sage before it hands you the information to tweak at will.

@BethBowers are you getting this message in the Connector module? If so, I suspect a licensing issue.

I think she was getting that when she does a search on the Sage Intelligence web site. Hilarious!
