  • 1.  Things to check when not redoing System Migration when going Live

    I'm always wary of not redoing the system migration (after a test migration), with the risk of customers playing with the data dictionary (UDF's), new users, users changing passwords... so I usually re-migrate the system (and go through enhancement reinstall...) instead of just re-migrating the company data.

    Question: what do you check before going Live with an upgrade, when not repeating a System Migration?
    • Users (new ones are easy to spot if the list is not long).
    • Role permissions (need to be reviewed after the upgrade anyways, so I'm not overly concerned with this).
    • CM_UDF (new / changed UDF's).
    • CM_Entity (new / edited UDT...).
    • New / updated scripts...
    Anything else?

    It sounds like your customers are a lot more adventurous than mine. 

    Generally I look at updating the paperless office files as well as taking backups of any reports that are in the MAS_XXX folder prior to copying back in the unconverted MAS_XXX and kicking off conversion again.

    I always check under the Mas_System folder and here are the ones I normally have to update:

     

    1. SY_ZipCodeedit – I don't do the regular zip code one because I find the edit one can get the trick done.
    2. SY_XXX – all the tax schedule files.
    3. SY_CreditCardXRef – I'm not 100% sure if that is the right name or not but if they are processing credit cards, I bring this one over.

     

    Note – the systems I have had to do this on are pretty big so the files above are ones that actually get changed normally. If you are only going a few weeks in between rounds, these guys might be fine.

    I forgot one – I always check Explore to and see if anything new was added there.

    *fingers crossed*
    I appreciate the feedback / suggestions.  It will be good to have a running list of considerations like this, so feel free to keep adding any ideas you might have (for future reference).
