If she's so smart why is she still at Sage?

  • 57.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:32
Because at all of her interviews, she kept looking at her shoes.

  • 58.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:33
I saw Linda speak on Sage 500 at Summit. She seemed capable. Clearly webinars on new products are not her strength

  • 59.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    It should be 100zzzzzzz

  • 60.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

With few exceptions, presenters should never be senior product managers or developers. Never.

  • 61.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

And really, how is Sage automatically posting to customer's GL?????

  • 67.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

For abandoning Sage 100 and going to another product

  • 68.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:36
And none of this has anything to do with ""c"", so WTH?

if Sage is monitoring the webex q&a, they should be worried.

  • 72.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:37
Well the only functional development has been in payroll and that only because of legal requirements

  • 80.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:40
So I asked what the pricing would be for customers to move from perpetual to subscription licensing. The price will be a 15% increase of their current business care plan renewal. So, if the renewal is $5K, the new price will be $5,750. Relatively speaking, I guess that is not too bad. I followed that up with if the reseller margin would be based on the subscription pricing or the business care renewal. No answer on that one yet...I will post it if they answer it. Oh, Diane Haines has been answering my questions - full disclosure.

  • 81.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:41
They have so many panelists, so they can each answer specific questions. ""Go ahead, Kevin, take that one.

  • 82.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:41
Did she mention that this is 2016 AND c now, or is she implying it's still c ? Sorry, I zoned out for a while, for some reason.

  • 83.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:42
@BrianKelly I want to know what the price is per user when adding.

  • 84.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    This is both versions

  • 85.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

@JohnHoyt - Oh, I am sure it will be at the standard pricing once they move to subscription. Duh! LOL!

  • 86.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:43
I guess I have strange customers. Exactly 0.0% are interested in a NEW UI that they have to re-train 50 people on. Isn't that the first question people ask about an upgrade? Very few companies want to put in a new UI.

  • 87.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:43
Daniel Oh is there! He just evolves to another function every year.

  • 89.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:45
@WayneSchulz I think you are correct. 2016 enhancement to c line are not compelling for most current customers. It's the future enhancement that will make it interesting.

  • 90.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:45
@WayneSchulz - I do have a lot of customers who want the bigger font but don't like changing their screen resolution, so this will be good for them.

  • 91.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:46
so what is ""C"" and what is ""2016"" OMG talk about confusing

  • 92.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:46
I do believe the new UI is going to look way more attractive to prospective customers, so we will probably be leading with 100c for new prospects.

  • 93.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:47
OMG this is painful. Talk about a lack of preparation.

  • 94.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 09:47
@BobKohlmeyer - no reason not to. I wish they would just let everyone convert now to subscription at the same price and be fricking done with it.

  • 95.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

I have a follow up call with Connie Certusi this afternoon: I would like your 'constructive' feedback: 1) Do you feel many of your customers will move to c with the current feature differences? 2) If at some point they do find the feature differences are compelling, do you think the 15% premium in price is reasonable and will be accepted? 3) Any other 'constructive' repeat 'constructive' feedback?

  • 175.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 10:29
@BobKohlmeyer - a new UI for customers used to the current UI is not enough of a diff to get people to move at a 15% increase. And if the feature set it supposed to stay basically the same, I don't see it ever being compelling. They need to just switch over and say sorry, that's the way it's going to be now BUT let them switch over at their current price (which is all Sage is going to get anyway if they stay on the non-c).

  • 176.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 10:32

  • 179.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 10:40
@BobKohlmeyer Tell Sage when they join 90 Minds we'll give them all the candid feedback they want and then some. I thought it was dreadful and my confidence in Sage 100 as a viable product for new and existing users is at an all-time low.

  • 180.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 10:42
the really important question they haven't yet answered: What happens to a customer on subscription when customer stops paying? Does customer lose all access to Sage 100c, or will they still be able to read all? Essentially sage is saying that if you want ""good"" pricing, you must convert to subscription. If customer wants to stay on perpetual + maint, then they will pay a premium. Sage will likely be looking at 3 current-customer ""classes"": 1) stay perpetual and pay increase; 2) change to subscription; 3) dump Sage and move elsewhere. Among other effects, this 100c initiative will increase the number of current customers looking at alternative costs in competition.

  • 181.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 10:43
    1) Do you feel many of your customers will move to c with the current feature differences? Not likely 2) If at some point they do find the feature differences are compelling, do you think the 15% premium in price is reasonable and will be accepted? No I don't think so. 3) Any other 'constructive' repeat 'constructive' feedback? Incentive your customers for staying with the product. Not punish them or charging more. We need to keep them on plan. what is the difference between on plan and on subscription?

@BobKohlmeyer you can pass this on. There is no incentive for existing customers to move to subscription, especially if it costs more, unless either they have no choice (subscription or nothing) or the features are SO compelling because they can upgrade to 2016, drop maintenance altogether and use the software for the next 3-5 years. When, and if (and that's a big if), the new features become so compelling, they can subscribe at that point, or wait for some ""win back"" promotion. The fact that there's even the term ""win back"" is telling.

  • 193.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 11:20
For existing customers going to subscription, they no longer will have the advantage of letting their maintenance lapse if 100c has programs that go to read only. The 15% may happen anyway for maintenance plan renewals, so the customers are better off opting for 100c.

  • 194.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

Thank you all for the feedback. I will pass along.

  • 195.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 11:37
John has it about right. I ran a simple set of comparisons on current customers: the 20-user example in a renewal in an earlier post that compared to Acumatica, and a simple 5-user renewal for my current customer. shifting to subscription at Silver maint level was less than 10% increase on current renewal. Sage will mess around with their relative pricing over the next 24 months with bias toward encouraging customers to pick subscription. They will also employ some FUD to help move them to subscription.

  • 196.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 11:52

It just occured to me how much time we are going to have to eat to explain Sage's new policies to customers - payroll tier pricing and then this new BS if you want the new UI. Urggg. Not to mention the confusion for clients that are renewing in Oct to be hit with more costs in the coming months when they want to upgrade and use the new UI.

  • 203.  RE: There will be some really important topics discuss

    Posted 10-20-2015 13:42
It's time to create an FAQ. Payroll users are going to be in the worst position. I think it will take Sage a couple years until they tightly turn the screws to the installed base. Note that in the FAQ Sage just issued, they claim 17,000 installed users (companies) . I presume that is on maintenance as the number sounds about right based on prior leaked figures.

WAG - it started with Sage 300c where c = cloud and then someone's lightbulb went off and they decided to make a Sage 100c and since Sage 100c isn't cloud based they didn't come up with another idea of what c stood for.

c = charge more. The maintenance renewal people will be saying ""For a mere 15% more you can get blah blah blah"" and no mention of ""and now you can't cancel maintenance and just keep running the system BWHAHAHA!"" and for Sage financial reports it is moving maintenance $$ into subscription $$ which makes it look like they are actually selling rather than milking.

I have a client paying their renewal Oct 21 for 25K - they are interested in the new UI - so what happens in Dec if I upgraded them to 2016 - do they start paying 2,000 a month to get the new UI. No one at Sage seems to be able to explain - so far not my RAM.

I emailed my RAM the following - I would encourage others to do the same This is going to be such a time sucking process on why they do not get the new UI and I have to explain it 100 times to the customers because of decisions Sage has made. I think it would be easier to just do a 1% price increase across the board and be done with it not nickel and dime people. I can hear it now. Johnny we have been paying Sage maintenance for 15 years. We have been paying library master maintenance fees year after year to be compatible with the new versions and to get any new features. You tell me that all that money over these years does not get me the updated UI the UI has not changed in 18 years this is the biggest change to the UI in all these years? Why am I paying maintenance? Why am I paying 25K a year in maintenance for that matter? We have been paying maintenance on modules that have not been updated since 1998 such as Ebus mgr, Job cost, work order, payroll. Should we quit paying this part of the maintenance until substantial investment is made to these areas of the product because heck probably when sage does decide to do something they are going to bill us again for it. And now payroll is finally being redone to the new standards but Sage is changing the pricing to pay for it. Again what has all the maintenance they have been paying for the payroll module been going too? That is the whole point in maintenance is to insure your future access to the new improvements.

Maintenance was paid to maintain. Now you have to pay for improvement!

I just got a reply from Sage regarding being on subscription on premise. Like other subscriptions if the customer stops paying for the subscription they are no longer licensed to use the software.

It sounds like Sage is really trying to finesse the fact that Sage 100 doesn't have the *technical* capability to turn off after a set date.

Or to paraphrase Erika Jelovsek's statement at Summit one year - ""It's just too hard to do"".
