Oh, and I did get comped $30 for my three days, plus 27 cents per mile for mileage to and from the courthouse, free parking at the courthouse ramp, and up to $9 for today's lunch, as we were in deliberations.
All in all, a fair trade for lost work time. I'm pretty sure we jurists lost more in income than he was awarded but such is the judicial system. The worst part? NO CELL PHONES!!! We had to do manual calculations since we had no calculator in deliberations. Very odd. One poor guy was trying to do some math and was struggling so I volunteered to do it for him. Good thing us older folks remember how to do long division.....
