SWK/Hightower POS: 1) Is it compatible with 2013? 2) Is it compatible with Premium/SQL? 3) Does it supporting polling or are you dead in the water if the internet connection goes down? Is it a terminal server scenario for remote POS terminals?

Not compatible with 2013. Don't know about premium/SQL. We're using terminal server for remote terminals.

@RonGouveia So I assume that means no polling, i.e. if corporate internet goes down, so do the stores..?

    It does polling/synching.

Interesting, according to Patty, it does not. Her email: Hi Mark, Our POS does not have polling capabilities, we typically recommend you run it through Citrix. Patty

POS is not really our expertise, so I'm hoping to learn more here. I understand the advantage of polling, where data continues to be collected locally when the Internet connection is down, and is synched back to the server database when reconnected. I see this being similar to handheld devices tracking inventory transactions, reconnecting to the server when back in range of the wireless network. I have started to prefer the SWK POS in concept because the integration is like any other local module, and does not require VI integration. Perhaps that's not critical for this type of function, but for those with much more experience with POS installations, what is the optimal design? I'm assuming support for the polling function requries local software programs and data store at the remote location and synch software and controls for this to work properly. Does this exist in any of the POS solutions avaialble for Sage 100, or is it central database vs. VI update?

I've been working with Patty for a month trying to implement SWK POS for a wholesaler client with offices on three islands. They're using Sage 100 Advanced and the remote sights are logging in via a terminal server. We've been working on implementing a totally redundant internet access for a while now. It's not inexpensive to do this but is really critical to the POS working right. The strength of SWK POS is that it is just another module so it's integration is great. Weakness is internet connection must be redundant which is expensive. Still having problems getting Sage Exchange to work properly on the terminal server and to get the credit card swipe to go through to the terminal server and with other SWK POS bugs. I've come to realize that SWK has rewritten the program from the ground up so it's a work in progress. Hopefully ready for prime time soon.
