I got this message from my customer on Friday:

I have figured out on the ODBC connection, by testing on both my computer and Rita's and have found that if everyone is completely out of Sage, the Excel connection is very fast.  If that workstation logs into Sage, the connection stays fast.  If ANYONE else logs in, the connection immediately becomes slow.  Even if that other person logs out, the connection remains slow.  But when the original workstation that is using the connection closes and reopens Sage, it will be fast again.

So, in my very not-IT brain, it seems that it has something to do with Sage locking files to allow multiple users.  I don't know if that's the correct conclusion about WHY it's happening, but at least now I know what is causing it, so if I'm desperate for a speedy update, I can make it happen.

They're running Sage 100 Standard 32 bit. They don't have a ton of transactions.

Not connected to multiple people being logged in, but  - are they using an ODBC driver with the user and company hard-coded?  I found Power BI was unusable if you used the std ODBC but worked great if you had a copy with the info hard-coded into it.

I'd suspect a network performance issue.  While not an expert in modern networking hardware, I have heard of issues where network speeds decrease under certain circumstances, and it could be the other workstation connection is (for example) throwing a switch into a lower speed mode.  As you know, everything in Standard relies on network speed.

A few years ago my customer migrated Sage 100 to a new server.  If there were two people printing a Cystal report (form or report) Sage 100 would come to a standstill.  The issue was that IT had only allocated one core to the server.  Crystal was hogging all of the processor time.  You may want to check and see how many cores are allocated and also observe the performance monitor when the second user tries to access.
