So what the heck is ""Windows Server Standard FE""? Foundation Edition, I believe. Huh? Client's server appears to be Small Business Server (via the Start button), but in System Properties (i.e., Computer>Properties>basic info about your computer), it says ""Windows Server Standard FE"" for the Windows edition. It seems like this is some sort of stripped down version of Small Business Server, which ""is"" supported with 4.5. But this FE version isn't showing anywhere on the SPM's. Does anyone know if this is supported? Ever seen this? Run into any issues? Client is experiencing a decent amount of errors (# 100's, etc.), and we're wondering if this operating system has anything to do with it.

I doubt that it's explicitly supported, but it is a stripped down SBS. It can only handle 15 or 25 users max and won't do any virtualization, but does not require any User CAL purchases. Basically meant to be File/Print server.

I would think OS-wise, it should work fine. I'd look at the usual suspects: AV, disk drivers and network switches.

Interesting, thanks for the quick response, @SteveIwanowski. So if a client asked you if it's okay for them to run their 5-user Sage 100 Std 4.5 system on it, what would you tell them?

Agreed on looking at those usual suspects which we began doing, but then we noticed they had this FE edition installed.

Here's a link on the features scroll down a bit to see the side-by-side of the versions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_2012

Any OS version created by stripping stuff out of the full version is bound to have more issues than the full version. SBS breaks all of M$ best practices - I would expect SBS Lite to be a nightmare.

When I said it's a stripped down SBS, I really should have said stripped down Windows Server. SBS was Windows Server + Exchange + IIS + SharePoint + SQL + WSUS + a proxy (in the old days). Foundation is just Windows Server with less roles and less flexibility than Standard. If the client is small enough, and doesn't expect to grow beyond 15 users, it's a fine (cheap) OS. That being said, if they bought an OEM server with Foundation, then IT is probably not a core part of the business and I would expect to find lowest cost cables, lowest cost switches, etc...

    Thanks for the feedback, all!
