So what is the trick to running a test 2014 Adv upgrade on the same server as 4.4 Adv without screwing up anything in the 4.4? I've been reading about the paperless issues but does that only occur once you install WKSETUP? Or it it immediate as soon as you install the 2014?

Only when you install Workstation setup from what I have seen. I am still trying to troubleshoot a paperless office issue from a test upgrade last week. It broke the old converter, and despite following the instructions to give it a new port etc... it just doesn't seem to want to work. My advice, only do product update 3 until they are actually ready to go-live.

@MichelleBennion - so the fact that I purposely have not installed ANY service updates yet should have made this a breeze, right? But of course not. Email has died on the old live version. And I haven't even setup a port on the new version and started the service yet - hell, I haven't even converted files. Aargh, this is bull hocky.

That is strange... Maybe try re-entering credentials on the email tab. I wonder if maybe installing the new version did something to the email server? Is it housed on the same server... try the old reboot?

Only issue I ran into were the chilkat dll's for paperless overwrite the ones that work for v4.4 or v4.5. Once you copy the original ones back (and reregister them on the SERVER) v2014 advance works well. The issue MAY have occurred because I installed the workstation on the server as well. Not sure.

I think this is mainly an issue if the client is currently using Paperless e-mailing. There is only one set of DLL files that controls the e-mail function, and the files are different between 4.x and 2013+ versions - and the new one overwrites the old one. This means e-mail may no longer work in the old version. At a minimum, be sure to first make a bkup copy of the server's C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Sage\Common Components\ folder. Outside of that, you would need to reinstall the old Sage and workstation setup - or you should be able to just grab a copy of that folder from another client's installation that currently has the same version running.

Here is a document I created from an article that @WayneSchulz posted about this problem.

Cool, everyone - THANKS. As usual, I wasn't bright enough to search correctly to find this. I am search-phrase deficient.
