SO totals incorrect (v2020.0)

  • 1.  SO totals incorrect (v2020.0)

    Posted 10-23-2020 11:15

(I posted this on Sage City, but am repeating here in case it helps someone avoid wasting time trying to figure it out).

We have two different customers who've recently upgraded to v2020, and they are having the same issue: new Sales Orders are being created with bad totals (often zero).

The Lines tab "Total Amount" is shown correctly, but the Totals tab's non-taxable amount and order totals are zero.

Edit the Lines to zero quantity, and the Totals go negative.
SO History header has the correct value, but SO Header does not.

I re-created the problem in ABC using my test Sage 100 system (v2020.0, no enhancements).

    • Create a new SO for ABF, add a line with $ value, Totals, Accept.
    • Create a new SO, Copy From the first order.  Click to Totals, Accept.
    • Reopen the second SO, change the Ship To Code, click to Totals = 0!!!

Did this three times in a row, consistently breaking totals... case created with Sage.  Nothing in Sage KB or PU1 release notes.

Oh, and this is not an Avalara issue.  Neither has that installed, and one customer doesn't have Sales Tax enabled at all.

Does changing the tax schedule to something else and then changing it back fix the totals?

For the one customer with taxes enabled: yes (at least sometimes).
For the other (without taxes enabled) I found something that worked for the one bad example SO they complained about.  Change Ship To Code, click Totals (still zero), change Ship To Code back to the original value, then Totals... fixed.
For the first customer we put a script in place to swap Tax Schedules every time the Ship To Code is set, but it didn't solve the problem.  It's still happening multiple times an hour.

I believe the tax schedule assigned to the ship to location copies to the SO header when the order is created or the ST code is changed.  Does the issue happen with customers that do not have a ship to code?

I don't think it has anything to do with Tax Schedule, since it affects the customer without a taxes enabled.  The trick to recalculate totals by flipping Tax Schedules doesn't help understand the underlying cause.
The pattern we've been able to intermittently reproduce is with copy from / edits, but not all instances are like that.

For this client, they use ShipToCodes 100% of the time, but they are all NONTAX (customers and ship to codes).

@Kevin Moyes – was this ever fixed by Sage?  We're using your "workaround" but I'm just wondering if we missed a fix for it.  This is a really big deal for some of our larger clients and they're really struggling with why Sage hasn't put an update out there about this.

The case is still open.  Last comment was that Ronnie Aspe was going to look at sample data I emailed them.

Feel free to comment on the Sage City thread (...for more pressure on Sage to fix it):

I updated a premium client to 2019.4 last night and they are seeing this issue this morning. The other weird thing was if I tried to change the tax schedule to another one selected from the lookup I would get the message "must select a valid tax schedule". The only one that was accepted was Default. I re-initialized and re-imported the tax schedules back and the issue seems to be fixed for this client. I also called Sage and added everything I saw to the open case.

Thanks for the update Kate.  The more symptoms and information we get to Sage the better.
I exchanged emails with Ronnie a couple days ago and he's passed things on to engineering for troubleshooting (with focus on the +/- calculations, since that is something they can consistently reproduce).

Are we seeing this happen only in SQL?  The client that we're struggling with is indeed a SQL client, and we don't have it happening elsewhere...

My test system, where I duplicated the problem a few times, is 2020 Standard.

Thanks, Kevin.  And you still haven't heard back from Ronnie Aspe yet?  He emailed me and asked me the client who was occasionally having the out of balance (after I posted on Sage City), but neither they nor we have heard back from him as to a resolution.

Sage posted the Hotfixes for SO Order zero-totals problem yesterday.
    SO6004T is for Sage 2020.0 and 2020.1
    SO6005T is for Sage 2019.2-2019.4

Both affect the SO_SalesOrder_bus object, so beware of customizations.

The incorrect totals alert we set up stopped after applying the fix (where there were multiples a day before).

Of course, just now we had one show up.  A vast improvement for sure, but not a 100% solution apparently.
