So I get an email from client as follows: I spoke with XXX at SAGE who is sending over a ""migration to 100C"" proposal that apparently many of John's customers have done. If we move by March 31st, we'd be guaranteed our current price for the year. He'll be sending over a proposal to John and me to review. I'd actually like to reduce the monthly cost if at all possible. The 100C offers advantages John is aware of. Thanks. Me to client: Let's see how the pricing comes back on that. Did XXX explain to you the primary differences between the regular Sage 100 and Sage 100c? Client response: He said that it's pretty much the same as silver but they're encouraging people to do it as it's easier to do cloud-based updates. Anything more than that? So this is apparently how Sage is moving users to 100c Umm it is easier to do cloud based updates. Really??

I keep telling people to be thankful for this type of activity because it (a) keeps us in business at (b) premium rates

We are dealing with a whole new batch of over-zealous salespeople at Sage who are clueless.

Of course they don't mention anything about abandoning perpetual rights. Used car salesman tactics. Something for our (future) liaison to take to Sage.

I believe the goal is to get everyone to give up their perpetual rights and the tactics don't matter.

Yep, they say if you run with the dogs, you will get fleas.

Can it get any slimier? I think I'd need a shower after that email. It gives new meaning to ""trusted adviser"".

Attached are two documents (one email and one migration sign off) that being used by the Sage folks. They are reaching out directly as I received both from a client earlier this week. I highlighted in yellow the guts (imho) of the upsell. They should use the word WILL instead of MAY when explaining what happens if you don't pay. I have been advising mine to bite the bullet, upgrade to ADV and move on. Hate to say everyone is doing it, but hey, Disney just announced that you now have to pay to park at their hotels now. Why? Because everyone is doing it. Doesn't make it ""right"", but this is one fight you aren't going to win. But let's hope they don't take greed to the next level like 'Pharma Bro' Martin Shkreli

And Sage has significantly increased the cost of the perpetual licensing on renewal. That alone just convinced one of my customers to switch.

Why not try zigging when everyone else is zagging? Differentiate your company. Show some innovation.

I have a customer that was going to start looking because his perpetual maintenance increased 6% two years in a row. Wait till he sees his bill this year. He is going to flip out.

Has anyone determined if the new April 100cloud pricing which is 40% higher with no upfront will impact existing use migrations? If so, what a 1-2 punch.

The new pricing is for new customers only. The existing pricing with up front fees will remain for existing customers.

I'm curious about migrations. I guess I'll get an answer in April when it goes into effect.

Yes, migrations will use the new pricing.

@DougHiggs Ummm, this IS Sage we are talking about! We are lucky to see the same faces two years in a row at MOTM.

The only question is the date of the ""ungrandfathering"" for all the ones who were suckered into switching already.
