SMI question from lone client trying it out - ""I was going to try and use the designer in MAS Intelligence it is telling me that the designer isn't licensed. Thought that the free license was for everything but apparently I was wrong. Can you tell me how much that license would be?"" I don't know didly about this issue. Any QAD thoughts. I'll send a note to the sales advisor team on Monday.

If there's ever an area overly ripe for collaboration -- it's this whole SMI application area. I think we're all basically ducking client questions and hoping that things will continue on as much before.

They have made it way too complicated. Since FRx will be good for a couple more years at least and for the rest of my clients that find pivot tables too complicated, I am hoping to stay under the radar for a while longer. Still busy trying to get everyone up to v4.x world.

Have they accessed the License Manager and registered the software?

They will also only be able to license the free designer to one machine at a time. It's not terribly difficult to switch the license between machines, but enough of a hassle that most will probably buy an additional license.

This is a serious razor / razor blade situation

I bet sage is paying somewhere between 0 and $10 per exiting user and a few bucks more for new licenses so they have a huge audience to sell additional needed licenses to

Wow, finally done shoveling......... The client will only be a single user on a single workstation but I will verify that she didn't switch machines. I think she is trying to get it working for the first time. Since I haven't gone beyond the initial feel good marketing class that they had last summer, are the installation instructions good? Could she have missed a step easily?

One thing is that I had to enter my Sage account number in the name field. This may only be partner requirement. It stated that somewhere in the doc, but I overlooked it the excitement. Further, I had difficulty getting the Excel Add-In registered to work with Excel 2010. One of the things that support had me do to correct the problem was to use the utilities UNREGADDIN.EXE and REGADDIN.EXE in the SMI Root Directory. Regarding moving a license: Just remove it from one workstation and then you will be able to install it on another. How to remove a workstation license for Sage MAS Intelligence Entry Type: Informational Product: Sage MAS Intelligence Application: License Manager Version Reported: 4.40 Subject: How to remove a workstation license for Sage MAS Intelligence. Possible Resolution: Delete the licensed computer name in License Manager. Note that deleting a License invalidates your serialization key and SMI will need to be re-serialized online. 1.Open License Manager 2.Double click on the company name in the object window and all assigned licenses will be displayed 3.Highlight the Computer Name which will no longer be used 4.Right click on the Computer Name and select Delete 5.Click 'Yes' to ""Are you sure you want to delete the License [Computer Name]? 6.Click 'Yes' to ""Warning: Deleting a license will invalidate the serialisation keys and serialisation will have to be re-performed online before any of your users will be able to access. Are you absolutely sure you wish to delete the license."" 7.Close License Manager
