SI Gurus (Prem v2016) I was thrown a curve ball today. Customer is claiming that they used to be able to run a SI Financial Report (I didn't write it and it's at least a year old), and do a file/save as in Excel to their desktop. The next day they launch this 'file' (not from SI Report Manager, rather from their Desktop) and it updates all the numbers with any new information that was inputted into Sage. They do this file/save as the report takes a long time to run. So I created some new reports for them over the last couple of weeks. These new reports do not do this auto-update. I told them I didn't think SI was intended to do that auto update anyway. They are not happy! Am I missing something? On a second note we still can't import into Trees correct? Thanks Nancy

No guru but I do run some reports out to a network directory for a customer each night, via task scheduler, so the users can access the next day. They are able to change periods and years on the various Report Designer based reports at it 'updates' for them. These reports are output as xksm, macro enabled Excel.

As far as I was aware, SI queries the data and data is local from that point on. You can have it scheduled to rerun it but in the report itself it would not auto update. Now what they could have done is have the same hidden tables in SI be external data to excel and have it auto update the query which would bypass the query from SI.

Todd, would I be able to see this within the report if the writer did this? If they are connecting to a Tserver to run their reports, would I only have to create this query once and everyone could use/see it?

There is the ability to put a shortcut to an SI report on a users desktop. It will open up directly in excel without opening the Report Manager/Viewer window.

Doing a file/save does not update the data when they open it outside of Sage Intelligence in my experience. I always click on the advanced option of the report and save it to a specific location where many can access it as long as they have rights to the folder. Then I set it to run in Task Scheduler on whatever time frame they want. The users then access the report in the saved folder vs. running it from Sage Intelligence. The report can also be set up to e-mail to people when the task scheduler runs.

Nancy, You should be able to see that it has external data source. Most of the time when you have an external data source it will prompt to update. When answered yes it will pull the data. The query could run when each user connects. If the data is instantly updated when they open the report, it sounds more scheduled, then anything else. You should be able to see when the file is updated before opening it or seeing a delay as it retrieves the data. Sounds like you might not have the whole picture from the customer as to how it is run or maybe they do not understand how it really works.

Also, yes you can still import trees.

Thanks Todd, I was thinking I need to connect and watch too. @Michele how do we import trees? I'm talking importing the GL structure into the tree, not importing an external tree (which is really just copying the tree into the Reporting Trees Folder.

No, I do not believe you can import the GL structure into a tree.

@NancyHanson there is an SI utility that will export the trees from FRx and create an SI compatible .TRE file. You must then copy the .TRE files into the ""ReportTrees"" folder in the repository.
