Client is moving to a new server.  In this case, it is not an "emergency" but a critical part of their business that needs to be completed. My question:  What is an acceptable "lead time" to expect with third party vendors for these installations?  Do you think a two week lead time is acceptable?  Is a three week lead time acceptable?  Keep in mind, the client "paid" the server move payment in advance, and it has taken a week already to get a response from the proper team.

Just wondering what you feel is acceptable?  I'm afraid staying at home 100% of my time has "clouded my judgement" on this one.

When you say "third party vendor" do you mean a managed service provider who is managing their IT infrastructure?
Or do you mean an ISV like Starship, etc?

A Sage 3rd party vendor that requires installing their product on their own.  They don't allow us to install their products.

The only recent one I had a big issue with was ARM who actually wound up doing the entire upgrade for an orphan who had reached out. They quoted a significant fee to upgrade their integration plus the regular upgrade fee.

The others who I schedule - Azamba, ScanForce and Starship are usually only a few day’s notice and they do their thing.

I think CIMcloud requires some advance lead time as well.

Also depends if they have customized mods.  If there are mods that have been customized specifically for them, then a 3 week timeframe is more realistic...

Agreed, nothing custom.  It is a simple data collector.  Maybe my frustration is showing.  I would hope that for a "server move" they could tell us when quoted (yes, there was a fee); what the ETA would be.   All good, just wanted some reasonable feedback.  Appreciated.  :)

I have also run into server move fees (and almost always are for test upgrades so no users are effected) and while they tend to be slow to create the quote, they are hounding once the quote is created to make sure the client pays upfront before they will schedule anything. Usually, they say 2-3 weeks out. Once I find out payment has been made I hound them. I do get frustrated when they don't appear to know what they sold them (sends questionnaires and says they need also before scheduling). Also, irritates me when you state it is a test server and they keep saying that they need complete access with no users able to get in. In most cases, you can't finish your part of the upgrade until they do there's. It's like they have no clue but what is in their world. (A little rant).

If there is new hardware involved, timing is largely dependent on the vendor, and there is the physical setup to be scheduled (on-site).
If it is just spinning up a new VM on existing hardware (which has adequate resources), we've seen this done by customer IT in a couple hours.
What is "acceptable" depends on what is being done.
