Hi there

I could have sworn that i saw one of the new 2023 features was auto numbering of serial numbered items during completions.  Any one know?  Below is what the client would like:

2. Do you know or can you please check on the following?:  When doing a work ticket completion on a serialized item, will PM handle a serial number where the convention is X#####X, with the increment happening just on the numeric portion of the string?  E.g.: 
1. D708001B
2. D708002B
3. D708003B

Any suggestions on how to handle this if the answer is "no"?

@Douglas Luchansky If the answer turns out to be "No", please be aware that I have worked up a scripting method to allocate sequential numbers (could be any algorythm that includes the prefix/suffix you've shown) for Lot/Serial Number Distribution in Receipt of Goods, AP Vendor numbers, and IM ItemCode numbers. I would imagine I could do it here as well. I use a standard User Defined Script (UDS) method that avoids modifying panels and thus creates no additional headaches on conversion. I could work with you to do a similar function for P/M Lot/Serials.

Looks like it is only for distributing the numbers, not assigning them.  Below is from the What's New in 2023 PDF..  I highly recommend Dan's script work.  

Select Serial Numbers by Range

The Select Serial Numbers by Range button has been added in Lot/Serial Number Distribution. You can select serial numbers using a range instead of scrolling through a list to find the starting and ending serial numbers. This enhancement is carried throughout the following modules:
l Bill of Materials
l Inventory Management
l Purchase Order
l Production Management
l Return Merchandise Authorization
l Sales Order

I can't find documentation on when this was added, so I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for. in V2022 there is the ability to add serial numbers to a serialized item during a completion entry.
