Sending out corrected copies of 1099's - Client jumped the gun and mailed in Uncle Sam's copy last week. This week, he realized that about 10 people received a form when they shouldn't have. Now he has to generate a corrected form that shows ZERO in the appropriate box. In testing, it doesn't appear that MAS will print a form if the amount is zero. Does anyone have a workaround? Typewriter???? Word document? Favorite program off the Internet?

    Mas90 will print a 1099 for 1 cent - maybe white-out from there.

Hack the 1099 file and put 1.00 in for those 10 vendors and hack the crystal file to print 0 if the amount is only 1.00??

First I always advise them to contact their CPA for tax and accounting advice. Don't set yourself up as their tax advisor unless you're ok with them coming back to you if they incur a penalty (and at that time their member will be very short about how you were just giving them informal advice).

Agree, I don't give that type of advice.

Idea ..... On the 10 vendors change the 1099 dollar amount in their file to a high amount so you have them only print ( with minimum payment criteria). Then hardcode the one of the printing description field to put 0.00 in the appropriate box ( turn off the actual box 7 amount) and print them.

Being part of a CPA firm, I strongly agree with Wayne's comment. As a policy, we do not get involved with any form or version that is not part of the software, and refer the client either to their CPA or to the appropriate partner or staff group at our firm. Our bookkeeping group prepares payroll and 1099 forms using CFS Payroll software, but that company also has tax software/forms at www.taxtools.com. One function is Fill-N-Print tax forms, including 1099's, corrections and zero forms. Most CPA firms will have something similar, but a client could also access this. It's 10 forms in this case, so the no cost option is typing them.
