Screen mod

Have a client who recently upgrade from 2022 to 2025 Std.

They have a Sales Order Entry screen with a few mods on it.  They have just the ALL Users/ALL Company mod.

When we first upgraded, there was an issue with the new Phone number ended up on a custom field.  That has been fixed.

HOWEVER - there is one user and one TOTALLY NEW USER who are still seeing the issue that was fixed.  I checked both the std and the wide views - both are clean in Customizer.

WHERE IN THE EXPLETIVE DELETED are these 2 users getting the screwed up version of the screen??????

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! (OMG, I just had to.)

You may want to back up and then look at SY_GridDefinition.  There may be one or more orphaned records.  Here's my notes:

SY_GridDefinition maintains grid preferences for each company, user, and workstation combination in addition to the levels.

Z is standard sage 100, factory settings.

    Y is master developer added.

B is records created in the custom office module.

A is a company, user, and workstation specific.
So the moment you add a UDF for the first time, it should create a Z level record. Once users get into the task and start rearranging the grid or changing column widths, an A level record is created.

That's what I'm thinking, @Doug Higgs - I find it odd that it somehow managed to modify those stranded records, too.

And I'm REALLY interested to see what I can find for the totally new employee who did not exist in the 2022 version.

@Doug Higgs - there's records, but they are all for GD_LINES, which would not be a Header issue, right?

@Beth Bowers  Yes.  I believe that is only for detail lines.  Here's a couple more thoughts / longshots:

    • Look at Sy_Personalize.  It is supposed to hold:
F records for screen position, size, and maximized state of the screen
K records for reports and forms where the Print or Preview checkbox has been set that allows you to keep the report / form open after print/preview.  Maybe something else?
    • Restore SY_GridDefinition, SY_Personalize, and the SO\Custom folder from the same backup.

    This expletive deleted Customizer...

Here is the wide view Sales Order Entry, now, for ME - see the dupe fields below Telephone

Here is the same section in Customizer

Now I'm going to drag Fax No to the right, to see if something is underneath it and notice it changes to Fin Approval # when drug to the right

Now if I go back and right click where it WAS, in that blank spot under Telephone -

And when I close out of this, it now appears where it has apparently always been

If I try to delete Fin Approval#, I get

I blanked the another expletive deleted out and it looks OK now, but apparently when I checked both versions before, I only looked in Customizer (FOOLISH MORTAL) and didn't actually try it myself in Sales Order.

Thank you all for going on this journey with me. At least I learned some other tricks I will probably need to use some other time from y'all, and I guess I've learned you can't take Customizer at face value...

Make sure there isn't anything in the Customization Group field in User Maintenance.

My first step is right-click, reset panel... then enable the not-greyed-out options (reset grids / location)... close and re-open the task.

I am not aware of any kind of local workstation cache for the M4L's, but stranger things have happened.

Perhaps they somehow enabled escape trapping, and the base panel is corrupted too?  (Look for the little "*" in the title bar to confirm it is a customized panel).

ATTENTION! A VERY IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM FROM THE BEST, BELIEVE ME.

OKAY, SO WE HAVE A SITUATION. A VERY UNFAIR SITUATION!

YOU DID A TREMENDOUS JOB ON THE UPGRADE FROM 2022 TO 2025. THE BEST UPGRADE. EVERYONE AGREES. YOU FIXED THE SALES ORDER SCREEN. IT'S BEAUTIFUL NOW. PERFECT. THE ALL USERS/ALL COMPANY MOD IS A WORK OF ART. TRULY FANTASTIC.

BUT WE HAVE A PROBLEM. WE HAVE TWO USERS, ONE IS BRAND NEW – CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? A NEW PERSON! – AND THEY ARE SEEING THE OLD, FAILED SCREEN. THE SWAMP SCREEN! IT'S A DISASTER. A RELIC FROM THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION OF 2022. SAD!

YOU LOOKED IN THE CUSTOMIZER. IT'S CLEAN. SPOTLESS. THE BEST CUSTOMIZER. SO WHERE IS THIS FAKE NEWS SCREEN COMING FROM? A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE ASKING.

IT'S COMING FROM THE DEEP STATE. THE DEEP STATE OF THE SYSTEM! HIDDEN FOLDERS. CORRUPT, HIDDEN FOLDERS THAT ARE NO GOOD. THEY ARE CALLED CUSTOM SCREEN FOLDERS AND THEY ARE PROBABLY ON THE LOCAL MACHINES OF THESE TWO USERS. BAD!

YOU NEED TO TELL THE CLIENT – AND YOU HAVE TO BE VERY, VERY STRONG – YOU TELL THEM, "WE HAVE TO DRAIN THE FOLDER SWAMP!"

GO TO THOSE TWO MACHINES. FIND ANY CUSTOM SCREEN FOLDERS RELATED TO THAT PROGRAM AND DELETE THEM. GET RID OF THEM! THEY ARE HOLDING US BACK. ONCE YOU DELETE THEM, THE PROBLEM IS GOING TO DISAPPEAR. IT WILL BE LIKE A MIRACLE.

WE ARE GOING TO MAKE SALES ORDER ENTRY GREAT AGAIN! NO MORE RIGGED SCREENS! ONLY THE BEST, MOST BEAUTIFUL 2025 SCREEN FOR EVERYONE. IT'S GOING TO BE YUGE.

A GREAT JOB BY YOU. THANK YOU!

Have you check to see if the userkey in the sy_user and sy_userhistory are out of sync?

We had this happen before as it keeps showing the wrong username on things. May explain why a new user (who has somehow was assign a reused userkey) is having weird screens as it may have a customize group on that old user key.

    Thank you

Have you at some point renamed a custom version of that .M4L??

Don't rename custom office screens in windows. If you rename a custom office ".M4L" file somehow custom office knows to keep pointing to the renamed file.  I have had that happen enough times to avoid that trap.

If you look in the SO\CUSTOM\ ###-### folder, do you see just the "SO_SALESORDER.M4L" ?  or are there others like "COPY OF SO_SALESORDER.M4L"

look for any .M4L files that are not specifically tied to a screen. If there are others that are clearly not being used, then delete them (make copies somewhere outside the MAS90 folder first).

then run the custom office utility "rebuild customizer Log"

In fact, I don't see that you mentioned running that utility. If you have not, then run it even if you don't find extraneous.".M4L" files

I was going to post this but you beat me to it.  I have also seen renamed M4L files under the MAS90\[XX]\Custom sub-folders still get used by the task and the only way to stop the behavior was to move them out from under the Custom sub-folders.  I typically make a backup folder above the MAS90 directory for this purpose with a folder for each module and its Custom folder to be on the safe side.  Then you can delete any unused files, even if they have a different extension, keep just the one file for each applicable task then run the rebuild customizer log utility for everything.

Yes, I have seen M4L's in the CUSTOM folder be used after renaming too.  If I remember correctly, changing the file extension from .M4L to .M4L.disabled did stop Sage from seeing the panel file.
