  • 1.  Screen loading time difference between Sage 2021 & 2023

    Posted 03-09-2025 21:29

    Hi All

Have a client that upgraded from 2021 to 2023.  They have been complaining about slowness in opening screens in 2023.   They did move to a new server so I initially thought that could be the issue.  I had their main user connect to the server with their IT and test it directly there.  She said it was exactly the same.   So I joined the session and asked her to show me.  The sales order screen took about a second and a half to open.  In 2021 it opened in about half a second.  I asked her "the one second delay is what you are talking about?"  She said yes....  Sigh..  They had thought that moving back to the pervious server would help so I set it up there, and added that server option fo their manager's computer. She reported that both on the new & old server the time to open was the same.

They are running Advanced.  The "old" server si 2012 R2 64 bit.  The new server is 2022 64 bit.

This is the sort of thing that makes me leery many times of doing upgrades.   I am not a developer but it would seem to me that added features in newer versions seem to make it respond more slowly.     Does anyone know if this is the case?   Is there some sort of explanation for this?     And yes, all the "hand wringing" is over one second (not the first time for me to get complaints over split second differences...)   One other question - would changing Sage to 64 Bit help with this?   From my understanding, the answer is no, but I have been wrong many times.

    Thanks in advance!

Bob - I would say the added features in newer versions definitely adds overhead to the business objects and can make screens load slower. I don't know about 64-bit being any faster but in case it helps here are links to some What's New docs that you could potentially send to the client:

    Sage v2022 - https://cdn.na.sage.com/docs/en/customer/100erp/2022/open/WhatsNew_2022.pdf

    Sage v2023 - https://cdn.na.sage.com/docs/en/customer/100erp/2023/open/WhatsNew_2023.pdf

It's not just you Bob, I get this type of question pretty frequently. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to predict the speed post-upgrade ahead of time. I always suspect anti-virus or other network changes - especially when there is a server change. At least half the time when this issue is solved, it's usually something IT suddenly fixes and (drum roll) a very very high percentage of time the culprit is the first thing I suggest that they look at more closely.

    Hi Wayne

That is also my first thought.  But in this case we are comparing apples to apples because in the test setup both versions are on the same server/workstation.   All this over one second...  I was sort of expecting something like a 20-30 second delay for how much they were complaining about it..
