We are working with a client that is converting to Sage 100 from a legacy system that is running on SCO Open Server Release 5 Unix. The company that supported the unix installation said they could not help because they were retired although they have been getting paid for annual maintenance.
They were trying to run a print job and it got caught in an error trap and is updating the log until the system stopped. When we try and sign back in we receive the following error message. Any thoughts would be appreciated as their operation is shutdown.

We used to have Unix/Linux experts on staff, but they're all gone. You may be able to find a user group with members who can help.

I have an IT person I work with (and recommend) on 10 or so of our common accounts.  I asked him and below is his response:

Looks like the permissions on the file /usr/spool/mail/bsi have gotten damaged; that would be a mail file for someone or something on the system.

Assuming that's the only error on the system, however, I wouldn't expect it to stop them from operation.

They need to login as root (or another user if they've not enabled root), check the permissions and/or contents of that file, then restart the spooler (if they don't know how to do that, reboot.)

Doug, Thanks for the help. What I have discovered is that they had a print job running that we thought we had killed. This print job got caught in an error trapping with out a way out. We have a file called /utl/spolog. This file was 2 gig and when I killed the print job and deleted the file we were able to access the system. Whenever they try and run any print job the file starts growing and will continue to grow until all the disk space is gone. Below is a copy of the first page of the file.

Any insight would be much appreciated

    Thanks

Dave Ihnat used to work at Bell Labs, the developers of UNIX.  He has been working with UNIX since the early 1980's.   Give him a call 773-550-0929 or send him an email. dihnat@dminet.com

    Doug,

We used to be a SCO Advanced Service Center.  We still have some of the SCO experts on staff.  If you want some help with this, give us a call at 425-820-6120.  Ask for Chris and he will help you.

    Thanks.
