Scanco JobOpsApparently I may be the only one who

Scanco JobOps Apparently I may be the only one who has been unhappy with the lack of significant progress by Synergistic Software in the last 8 years, and since I have posted my unhappiness, I have been deemed to be unprofessional. Am I alone and just a whiner, or is there solidarity in the group? By the way, I am elated that Scanco has stepped up to save us, so I can defer my research on alternative software. (Yes, seriously!)

If anyone can rescue it, Joe can. However, the problem goes back more than 8 years. I recall being at a JobOps partner event back in the 4.0 days. The partners were asked ""Should we do 4.1 by upgrading exactly as we have it now or break it out into a separate module?"" The response in the room was (almost??) universally ""a separate module"". I am still not sure why JobOps bothered to ask us...and I found my alternative about 7 years ago...

4.1 was totally a Sage problem, and because of that, they should take no profit from Sage Manufacturing sales. I can't remember if we lost any customers due to it, but we certainly wasted a lot of time and probably wrote off a lot.

Did you HAVE to bring up 4.1! I almost had it moved to the far corner of my brain. I can't wait for v2018 to the street this month.

Seems like the only way Sage knows how to deal with bad publicity is to slap you down. Glad to see their ""fucus"" is on the right target.....

I remember that meeting, too, Phil. I encouraged them to do a separate module. But I also remember that the question came long 4.1 was already in the field, and Synergistic was really behind the 8 ball, and shortest path was overwhelming. I think it spoke volumes that they asked that question so far into the Sage development; I don't think they had the appropriate resources to successfully do a standalone module. Too bad.

Standalone may again be in the future - I strongly support going that direction. After all, Scanco is already in with Acumatica, so they are not true green with Sage. Beef up JobOps to be world class within this SMB market, and then the back-end ERP may not matter.

That would be great. Do they really have the appropriate technical resources to it?

Not sure. I've been thinking about this for years. The basic approach of JobOps has always seemed to be different (in a positive way) from other production systems, so why not branch out.

JobOps is essentially a Sage100/MAS product. To sell it as a ProvideX standalone in a very crowded and very technically capable jobshop software market (think Visual, Infor, Epicor, and about 10 others), with a channel where only a small handful could go toe to toe with the experience of those in the other channels and it would be a mistake. I have nothign against JobOps or the people. But now that I'm expert in Job Shop software, Jobops only sells because either a company already has mas90/sage 100 or the partner has a crazy strong relationship with the prospect and they will buy whatever the partner recommends. This means if they rebuilt jobops to be standalone, both those reasons would be off the table and I doubt it would win many deals against the very entrenched competition.

I agree with Mark. The opportunity window for JobOps outside of Sage 100 is closed. I think it was open a dozen (!) years ago when it was (sort of) on the table. No more. Coulda. Woulda. Shoulda.

I have worked with JobOps for 14 years believe it or not... I was a reseller. And all of you that know me I don't sit still well. And to this I say stay tuned...
