I think ""no additional cost"" means no activation fee.

I'm with @DavidOverholt - I think that this is just no migration fee but you still have to pay a higher recurring subscription and you will be subject to the entitlement server which checks you license every 28 days.

LOl... Of course. All the customer needs to do is relinquish ownership to something they already own, and agree to a subscription plan that 1. means they are now leasing instead of owning. 2. The cost can be increased annually by Sage. 3. if you don;t like it Sage can hit the kill switch and you are screwed. Who in their right mind would agree to that?

This may be a good deal. If I'm reading this right -- a Sage 100 perpetual can save 30% or move to Sage 100c with no one-time fee.

Based on "" Upgrade to the full Premium edition "" I question whether an existing user on Sage 100 Standard can migration to Sage 100c Premium for no additional cost.

That's the scam Wayne. They discount 30% this year to get you to move, then raise it 15% a year over the next 5 years.

Is saving 30% for one year worth changing to a subscription plan? Once on a subscription, Sage no longer needs to justify creating value for new features. Their argument will be that the value for the subscription is the right to use the software.

Yea, I think I'll take the car I own and decide to go back and pay a leasing company.

@DougHiggs - New value for NEW features???? When did they start doing that during this decade?

for any Superman comic fans, Sage has relocated from Irvine to the Bizarro world (where everything is backwards) - such as you pay for what you already own, a ""benefit"" is really a cost, etc.

We have many customers who are on Sage Standard but really want (need) Sage Advanced or Sage Premium but don't want to pay the estimated $25k/$29, respectively, to move up. The difference in cost to go to 100c is nominal, considering how much it would cost them to purchase the upgrade. For one of our customers (they are typical), their current maintenance for 11 users on Sage Standard is about $5200. For their upgrade to 100c license and have us install the Advanced or Premium version is approx. $6042 (license fee only). On the quote from Sage, it also states that the ""estimated renewal is $6042."" We explain that the customer MUST keep paying the license fee and if they stop, they will no longer be able to use Sage. (Sage told us the customer data will still be there, but they won't be able to do any transactions.) For customers who don't need or want to go to Advanced or Premium (or are already on advanced or Premium), they are tending to stay with what they have. For the others who want the Advanced or Premium installs, we've explained the situation as best as we can from what Sage has told us and many have decided to go 100c. It's actually surprised me how many do go this route and they do love the new ""visual"" features.

I asked our Sage rep what this means exactly and the answer is: ""It means the upfront fee is waived and there is no 15% upcharge. Their costs would be the same as long as their configuration stays the same.

With 100c, is there a kill switch if not renewed? I didn't think that was employed yet.

I think there's a grace period, but unsure of exact number of days.

@BobPfahnl take a look at PU2. They just added an entitlement check - aka kill switch. I do think there is some type of reasonable grace period but it's probably not lengthy.

They literally must have more licensing programmers than new functionality developers

@MarkChinsky - at least I hope so, otherwise paid up customers are going to get turned off...

With the 100c product, the user must fill out the Payment Authorization form for either ongoing CC or ACH payment. So, they would have to purposely cancel their subscription if not longer wanted. No more just not paying the next maintenance bill.
