There is a lot to this. An $11k renewal implies $50k retail in software. So, 20 users? What would they pay annually for 20-users for Acumatica or Netsuite? Yes, I'm ignoring functional/feature differences, but just on price, what might they be looking at to switch?

These types of complaints usually are followed by a switch to QuickBooks or similar. Over $7,000 is user license/maintenance. This is becoming more common. I don't think I'm an isolated case.

I don't think this is isolated either. There are more than a few legacy MAS 90 customers who now have ""too big"" a system for their current needs.

One thing that I have done is have the customer pay Sage directly for the Sage Maintenance and then pay me for my services. I have found that they may not be happy with what they pay in total but it gives them the ability to evaluate me separately from Sage. So if they aren't happy with Sage they can still be happy with me. This doesn't change Wayne's point.

Just had a conversation with client over a 6K renewal invoice. I agreed that it was a lot of money. Let's focus on the value of the software instead. Are they more efficient using Sage? If so, how much is it worth? If they don't feel they are, then they really need to evaluate some other system....

I also have had these calls and the answer depends upon their current level and how static they are as an organization. Especially during the recession, the question is whether to pay annually or let it slide for 2-3 years. For a current customer on current hadware and OS, it can be a time value of money thing if they really never need the ""plethora"" of new features ""few"" are asking for.

We also put them on direct pay with Sage and monthly pay if possible.

For a human, ""cutting"" is usually a sign of serious mental illness...

it's sick. It's a holdover from Pascal hooeyhoo'sand Doug Labahn's strategy of bleeding the customers so they could make their numbers instead of doing longer term investments around innovation and marketing. I would really love to see the retention numbers for the last few years.

Charging maintenance on licenses beyond the initial 5 is robbery. A 35 user customer is asking why they should even bother when 4 years worth of maintenance buys an entire ERP system.

@JerryNorman Acumatica Advanced Financials (still ignoring functional/feature differences) is $12,000 and there's never an additional service for version upgrades.
