Say Goodbye to Sage 100 Cloud ( brand ) - And Hello to Sage 100 Subscription

I guess this could also be titled - Sage 100cloud is dead .... long live Sage 100cloud.

Sage has released a comparison document that completely does away with the Sage 100c or Sage 100cloud brand. In its place are Perpetual, Subscription, and Partner Cloud. And Sage goes further to explain that in their subscription world customers will have 12 months to upgrade and all future releases will only primarily introduce new features for a subscription.

This is nothing new to most of us. However, for customers who have been paying attention, this may be newsworthy since it's an official Sage document ( as opposed to hearing it from their Sage partner ).

The guide also gives a brief peek at what's coming in 2021 ( Designate companies as live, archive, demo, or test), Check number expansion from 6 to 10 characters, Enhanced Role Security with templates, etc ).

What's most interesting is that this document - which appears to be public-facing - completely does away with the Sage 100cloud brand which is not mentioned once.

For those playing along at home - Sage 100c first appeared in 2015. In 2018 after stumbling for almost three years to explain what the"C" stood for Sage unexpectedly expanded the brand name from Sage 100c to Sage 100cloud. This caused significant confusion for which Sage staff seemed to be apologetic in almost every presentation I viewed.

While Sage hasn't provided any formal guidance as to their future plans - it seems all but certain that the Sage 100cloud marketing brand is being retired.

Sadly, Sage hasn't seen fit to discuss these changes directly with the channel. Certainly to some extent they've hinted at it with their Sage Partner Cloud offering. However, to my knowledge, Sage has not officially made an announcement about Sage 100cloud branding riding off into the sunset.

I suspect there will be no formal announcement and the biggest change we might notice is a quietly updated Sage 100 splash screen which removes the ill-advised "cloud" branding.

I'll try to upload the document here but I have awful luck with uploads and Higher Logic so if it doesn't let me upload you may have to hunt it down over in Sage Partner Hub

Not a lot of shaking coming out in 2021.  What would truly be awesome is if they would just spend six months fixing all of the WAD bugs that we keep throwing their way.  Who cares about the "improvements", just fix the damn bugs.....

From the document, below are the MAJOR highlights of v2021......  Be still my heart!!!!

What's the value of the company type designation enhancement?

On the surface, I hope it's to prevent copying over a live company. My skeptical side wonders if Sage might be getting ready to charge licenses by the company in the future.

I like the idea of preventing a user from accidentally copying over a live company.  Licensing by company probably won't go over too big.

LIcensing by the company and named users are two things I would not be shocked to see Sage implement.
This regime seems to have gotten rid of the "cloud" branding and introduced price hikes ( aka Sage Partner Cloud SKUs )
The next regime may take a swing at tightening licensing so as to make more money
    Pure speculation on my part

@Wayne Schulz - Your mind is evil but if I went to the reservation more often, I would be making book that this (charge by company) is in the future.  Need to squeeze blood from the turnip (instead of providing value).  What is the point of making the distinction otherwise?  This enhancement doesn't even make my top ONE THOUSAND list!!!

"We have a flexible model for updates. We understand many Sage 100 customers have highly customized instances of Sage 100 and will need time and planning to make big updates. That's why we give customers 12 months to make an update once a new release is available".

Me: Sage just announced a new N-1 policy. I wouldn't be too terrified since the defacto policy for product updates has largely been N-1 for the past 12 months. I doubt Sage really cares whether a customer upgrades within 12 months. I think they would just prefer not to be pestered to push out any substantive PU type updates for anything but N-1.

This is just my opinion - YMMV

I'm hoping we are not seeing a change to what is "supported", and just a change to what is being pushed out to clients.

Sage has already said they won't have major new functionality in 2021 because ISV's need to catch up.  If they drop support for older versions, they'd have to have 'cup holder upgrades' from here on out.

Actually, I thought the statement was no major changes through out the year as "certain" partners could even deal with the initial release let alone the various PU's released subsequently.  So is this the end of the Mod Squad?

Why is the "developers can't keep up" suddenly an issue?  The software has been around for forty years, and now it's an issue?

Sage was adding new features with each PU, instead of with just with new major releases.  Great idea if they lived in a bubble, but in the Sage 100 world it put all enhancements into a never ending QA cycle.

OK, I'll say it.  Scanko can't keep up.  They have PM, OM, rumor has it they developed an inventory module for Intacct.  For some reason, VERY experienced people are no longer there.  Hello, 2005 all over again!!!!

If the strategy for Sage 100 is to encourage those users to migrate to Intacct/X3, then steadily raising the Sage 100 price makes perfect sense. Right now, the price difference is significant. Of course, this would also reduce the price differential for migrating to ANY modern system.
