Saw another genius move in this for sage: What if they create a ""Sage ERP 150"" that's really MAS 5.x and offer it as a 'free' switch option to clients. however, since it's billed as a separate product with a new EULA....BINGO, all existing clients now move to forced subscription and they've skirted the legal issue of the pre-existing EULA's. Even if they still offer a 'maintenance' option, it can now shut down write access to the software like Syspro does with their expiring license keys

I'm not sold that current customers are as easily swayed by subscription. This looks to be either a win back tool or a way to attract companies with small numbers of users (lets say under 5). Beyond those scenarios I think there's more analysis required to see which is the better deal. My guess is that eventually Sage would like to pull the module pricing (except for legacy maintenance paying customers) once they get the monthly subscription price dialed in.

Joe Langner said yesterday that they don't expect many current customers to go to this model. Think about it ... why would they? They would go from paying 21% of SRP to a much higher rate in subscription. And ... if they decide to opt out of Business Care, no big deal. If they decide to opt out of subscription ... zap .. read only ability in their software.

@PeterWolf hence why MAS 5.x should be labelled as a new product with a new EULA (I hope Sage isn't reading this LOL)
