Has anyone developed a Sales Tax nexus report which a customer could use for a quick overview of the:

    - number of sales to a state
    - the dollar amount of sales to a state

The sales tax nexus rules are different for every state though all seem to use one or both of the above metrics in order to judge whether a company is considered to have economic nexus in that state.

I have one customer where the CPA asked for this and I exported data into Excel and ran a pivot table. I'm curiuous if anyone has come up with a more elegant solution ( not all of my customers provide me with a license for Excel and I don't copy down customer data for liability/security purposes)

@Wayne Schulz - there's always Cross Tabs in Crystal...

Some folks who are doing multiple states but not a ton I have them setup the tax codes in Sage and use the actual state codes in Customers so I can just run the regular Sales Tax Report.

Thanks - I did a quick taxable vs non-taxable cross tab which shows counts and totals of each type of sale for a period of time. I think that should get them closer to some info they can use to decide whether it makes sense to dive into this any deeper

Remember that for many states, taxable and non-taxable sales will create your liability. If you sell b2b into states, you must file exemptions for each customer of those customers.

The key number to report on for your nexus is the number of sales and the total sales amount. If you exceed the threshold for a state, you must start filing and collecting exemption statements.

I've done that report @Wayne Schulz but each customer seems to need a 'tweak'.  I've done Sage Intelligence versions, Crystal too.  Most common additions are to add zip or city.

Even if you have  never  sold in a state you could have nexus. If you had a booth at a trade show in some states, even if there were no sales, you now have nexus.  Even give years after the trade show.
