I apologize if this is a silly question. Customer is wanting to integrate a Non-Sage100 solution. The Non-Sage100 company is asking for me to send them the Sage100 API documentation. Is there even such a thing and if not, what can I send instead? Is there a good answer to their request?. Boy, do I feel like a dinosaur right now :)

If a company that is not a Sage 100 partner is trying to write an integration to Sage 100 using the BOI, they are going to struggle.  It doesn't matter how great a programmer they are, if they don't know the business rules in Sage 100, it will be an uphill battle, and they will surely need a lot of your help.

In a good percentage of the cases, the third-party oversold their ability to integrate with Sage. The customer didn't check references. Now it's "phase two" and the third-party is asked to make the integration they promised.

Cue the complaints about Sage and how archaic it is and no other accounting system that this third-party has ever worked with ( both of them ) fails to offer an API that a novice could understand.

Let's face it - if "Lemon Laws" applied to software, none of the existing publishers would be in business...

Wayne your summation is on target.  It's the software's fault that we don't know how to deliver what we promised without even investigating fully!

Thank you all. Customer has been warned and I've offered to put them in touch with a master developer. If they still choose to proceed, well, there is only so much one can do.

I give customers ( who ask ) a three minute explanation about what I typically see when third-party ( inexperienced ) ISVs suggest that they can integrate to Sage 100. That the integration means completely different things depending on whether you are the ISV or the customer. Almost all customers expect that they are going to get full detail full integration and most ISVs deliver far ( often far far ) less.

This is especially prevalent with ( a) CRM and ( b ) eCommerce

    EXPECT
    1. We are going to give you and Excel/CSV file and it's on you to import it
    2. We are going to use Visual Integrator and it's on you to run the integration as desired
    3. We are fully integrated with push one button feeds
In most instances I advise the customer to expect #1 unless they have evidence supporting otherwise
