Sage tasks do not open or open minimized.

    Posted 10-17-2022 00:56
Hi All,  Have a client on Sage 100 2021 premium.  Last week they had a power outage and the host server went down that host the Sage server (were SQL is ) and the RDP server.  All users run sage by connecting to the RDP server.  They reported that Sage tasks were not opening.  I got users out as much as possible, Tried to kill tasks in a bit of an orderly fashion (close out each task for users before the aauncher).   Then I shut down the application server (they run it as a program)  I renamed the locate.pvk & the session.pvk in the _appserv folder and renamed the sy_console.m4t and the sy_workstation.mrt.    After this users still experienced issues.   I repeated this and also rebooted the servers.

Could it be that some of the system files are damaged?
I am thinking of replacing the home folder with a back up.  Possibly the SOA and launcher.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the SY_System table to see if "BroadcastShutdown$" value = "Y" (row 45).  If so, change to "N" and try again. Saw this recently with similar abrupt shutdown.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Andy,  Thanks for the thought.  It is not set but I have seen that before. In those cases, Sage closes completely.  In this case Sage stay open but the tasks don't completely launch even though they show as running.

    Perhaps:

Task windows open minimized on the taskbar, out-of-focus, or behind other windows in Sage 100

    Summary
Task windows opened from within Sage 100 may behave as follows:

Window opens, but behind another (main) task window that is already opened
Window opens, but starts minimized at the bottom, displaying on the Windows task bar
Window opens, but appears blurred or out-of-focus
Note: This knowledge article has resolved the issue for a large number of customers. However, it may be possible that it does not resolve the issue for a rare, few customers. Unfortunately, there is not at this time something that can be done within the Sage 100 software program to resolve this.

if the issue happens only on 1 workstation, after logging into Sage 100, see Additional Information.

    Resolution

    <content>

Try setting the shortcut to run Maximized:

    1. Right-click the shortcut icon used to launch Sage 100 at the workstation.
    2. Select Properties
    3. Access the Shortcut tab
    4. For Run, change to Maximized (instead of Normal Window)
    5. Click OK

Try setting the workstation's ForegroundLockTimeout key in the Registry:

Note: This is Windows user profile specific and will have to be done for each individual windows user experiencing the issue. The Administrator will have to modify ForegroundLockTimeout registry key value for each remote user. A Group Policy can be created for remote users that modifies this key for all remote users.

    1. From the Windows Desktop, open Start, Run
    2. In the Run field (or in Search programs and files) type REGEDIT and press the Enter key to open the Registry Editor
    3. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Control Panel, Desktop
      • While Desktop is selected on the left pane, the right pane of the Registry Editor window should display all associated keys
    4. Browse through the list to find the ForegroundLockTimeout key
    5. Double-click the ForegroundLockTimeout key to open it
    6. In the Value data field remove what is there and enter 0
(Note: That is a number 0, not the letter O)
    7. Click OK
    8. Back in the Registry Editor window, click File, then click Exit

If above steps do not work, try RENAMING HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sage Software in regedit (rename do not delete key, OR make backup of registry before proceeding!)

    Additional Information:

Splash Screen disappears without the Launcher appearing or no screen appears after login

I've had a similar issue since adding more screens to my workstation. I'll start the launcher or a module program and nothing appears to happen. I've discovered that the application window is opening off screen. By this I mean that it appears on none of my physical screens. I can access the lost screen using the standard Window control by using the keyboard with the following sequence of keyboard actions.
    1. Make sure previously launched programs are no longer running either by "End Task", logging off the Windows session or restarting Windows.
    2. Launch the application as usual and don't touch the mouse or keyboard so that they lost screen remains in focus
    3. Wait for plenty of time for the application to show itself

(Steps 4 & 5 here are for the case when the lost screen is maximized such as on on
a malfunctioning monitor. They can be skipped if that's not the situation)
    4. When it doesn't show itself, hold down the Alt key and press the space bar
    5. Release the Alt key and type an R key (for restore)
    6. Hold down the Alt key and press the space bar
    7. Release the Alt key and type an M key (for move)
    8. Press a left, right, up or down key once
    9. Move your mouse around to see if the window appears and tracks with the mouse.

What Dan said (I've done that a bunch) and what Wayne said, but I'll add a 3rd option.
2 steps with all users out of Sage:
    1. Backup Sy_Personalize.m4t in Mas_System. It holds 2 things:

    a. F records as seen in Field 1 for RecordFlag: Stores location and size of a task window opened from the Launcher. This includes whether the task (e.g. S/O Entry) is maximized vs restored. It sounds like for some users, it thinks the task is supposed to open off the visible portion of the screen.

    b. K records. When you open say a form or report and check either box at the bottom for Keep Windows Open after Print / Preview. This is not relevant for you.

    2. Either reinitialize Sy_personalize which means everyone has to reset the screen position settings OR find the records pertaining to the screen / user / workstation (remote wkstn in this case) and delete those records. Now when you re-open that task, say S/O Entry, it will appear on the screen in the default position.

You can also try removing the Sage 100 folder from the user's My Documents.

    HI Folks,

The problem seems to be that the task does not launch at all on the workstation- the task shows on the server but not on the workstation.   We did find that .Net was giving a lot of errors and we did a repair (sort of, it did some repairs but said there were remaining issues) which got rid of the errors but still the tasks do not open.  We also found that the firewall was turn on on the server, we turned it off.

I am going to try the following:

    • Updating .Net to 4.8 from 4.7.2 since that should be at least a "clean" install.
    • Uninstalling and reinstalling the client on the RDP server
    • Restore the Home folder from before the power outage
    • Repair C++ on the remote server

    Thank you,

    Hi All
Turned out to be a combination of corruption in .Net on the server and corruption in the client install on the server.   Fingers crossed all is good now.

    Hi All.

Still having issues.  .Net does seem to be part of the problem.  We have uninstalled 4.7.2 and are installing 4.8.   It appears that part of the issue may be caused by corrupt user profiles.   Has anyone ever seen this as cause of issues with Sage?

    Hi Robert,
I have had a recent case where 1 user was having issues and a recent Sage upgrade was blamed.  It turned out the user windows profile was corrupt and as soon as we got a new profile and installed the Sage workstation and other apps it all just worked fine again.  The circumstances are different than yours but a corrupt windows profile can manifest in odd things in applications.

This can be removed from urgent support.  Does not seem to be a Sage issue.
