Sage sells off non-core Act!, Salelogix, Non Profi

Sage sells off non-core Act!, Salelogix, Non Profits -- I'd heard this was a ""done deal"" late last year which didn't get done due to due diligence issues. Who knows if that was true or not but Sage spent some goodwill going to both customers and partners and attempting to wash away the taint of ""non core"" which Sage UK had placed on some NA products - namely CRM, Non Profit and Constructions. Anyone going to believe Sage the next time they get up and Sage and announce that non core doesn't mean disposal? http://erplife.com/2013/02/15/sage-jettisons-saleslogix-act-mip-non-profits-in-move-to-focus/

Glad I stopped building a business around Saleslogix. I'd be pretty pissed now.

If you ask me, for the most part, Sage see's CRM as an adjust to their ERP business. Anybody know what percent of SageCRM customers don't already own a Sage ERP product??

In my opinion this shows that Sage NA is not really in control of their portfolio. They stand on stage and claim non core does not mean disposal --- and they issue comfort letters about CRM not going anywhere -- and then the whole category is sold out from under them just as the words ""non core"" imply that it would.

But then in again in 1986 I said if half of IBM's employees disappeared the next day, nobody would notice and 10 years later they were half the size and 4x more profitable

Funny thing is, I said many years ago Sage's buy every piece of outdated, unrelated, semi-internally competitive piece of crap for annual maintenance strategy was going to end bad long term due to trying to maintain all these unrelated code bases...Ok, they can send me the management consulting check now :)

Interestingly enough - Sage went through a lot of effort to try to tell people that Non Core didn't mean sale. The CRM division even sent this letter out to buyers of Saleslogix to play down the rumors.

I believe this letter was from October/November 2012 and from one of the Sage VPS

@MarkChinsky - can you look at this and tell me what you compute as a potential gain/loss on the sale of North America products -- http://www.investors.sage.com/news/press_releases/?id=287573 Wouldn't the gain/loss be selling price less book value (which would have to be converted to $$ for our comparison purposes).

When Phil, Therese and I talke to Sage's CFO (Marc?) at Summit, during the conversation that topic came up as he was now the lead exec for those products.

The only negative part of this is that it should have happened 3 months ago. It is a healthy product, and Sage was milking BU cash flow since the summer ...although that was hard data to discover. CRM is increasingly becoming an automated marketing platform, and SLX+Swiftpage is in that vein.
