Sage partner session on selling cloud - just having difficult time wrapping my head around selling cloud AND selling 100 ""cloud"" in the same breath. Almost like selling snake oil.

Exactly! And all the advertising they're doing to end users is creating nothing but chaos. We get to be the bad guys telling them it's not really cloud.

More than that. Claims are being made that deployment is more streamlined, easier and a lot less educating. Our consulting revenue will be less but recurring revenue is more. Cloud is FASTER to implement!! I am in different dimension.

We should be thankful Sage delivers such a confusing message. It generates tremendous opportunity for consultants. Unfortunately, as part of that opportunity we have to spend a lot of time educating customers. By the time I'm done explaining Sage 100cloud and how cloud doesn't really mean cloud the customer's head is spinning and they are gasping for air.

Does anyone else see Sage's sinister plan in what Jeff wrote - less consulting revenue and more recurring revenue? Sage controls the recurring revenue, and we control the consulting revenue. Hmmm....

@WayneSchulz - I wish I could ""like"" your post so many times that it would turn into ""love""! #truth

well, I cannot argue with Sage being ""a lot less educating"" (than the alternatives)

Now with office 365, anyone in the company can see an ar dashboard with their phone. Welcome to the sage 100 cloud......

I would like to suggest that we give away funnels (you know, beer funnels) at next year's 90Minds conference with the words ""Sage Kool-Aid"" written on them. If you want to be a little more antagonistic, we could go with something like, ""Sage 100cloud...suck it!!!

Still not getting it. Seems like a a sales boot camp class using the word ""cloud"". Not seeing any secret sauce here.

On my break I will be looking for some grain alcohol to cut the kool-aid.

The Sage100cloud book is more an ad for Office 365 and how to keep your employees on the clock 24/7 than it is for Sage...

Epilogue - This was the first seminar that Sage has held on this topic. So we were the beta class! They started off on the wrong foot by under estimating the class size and limiting attendance. So after taking three days from the office to attend (out of pocket costs were 1.3K+), I did not have a seat at the round tables. So I forged @DougHiggs signature on the sign in sheet. Grabbed my seat at the front table so I could see and (sometimes) hear. Breakfast was provided. Better than my Hampton Inn food 30 minutes earlier. Second mistake they made was the title ""Selling in the Cloud"" I suggested that they retitle it ""Selling in a Recurring Revenue World"", which is what it really was about. In essence, it was a sales boot camp. No more big chunks of money in year one. Speaker estimated that you would have to retain the customer for about 4 years to break even. That recurring revenue (in time) be greater than consulting revenue (I was unable to ever wrap my arms around this factoid, especially in a Sage 100 world, perhaps in a Blytheco, DSD, SWK or Net@work world) . By the morning break, I came out of the closet and resumed my real world persona (thanks Doug for the loaner tag). Lunch was very good. I left shortly after that so I don't know how it ended. Haven't decided if it was worth the extra day yet. It was a sales seminar. If your company is large enough to have a sales staff, it might have some value to you, but if you are, you probably are well aware of the need to adjust the sales focus.

Glad you were able to attend Jeff, and get me off the hook for skipping. Also, great to see you finally came out of the closet!

I provided my feedback on the cloud session (I couldn't see any of it, of course, from my table!) I said it would be great if Sage were just totally transparent, like ""You are VARs, we want you to sell one of our cloud solutions, such as Intacct, Financials, or Enterprise. Here are the managers of those programs to answer questions. Here is a partner who is successful in selling using this model to share their journey.

OMG - I tried to talk with Jenifer W about having a ""Cloud Provider Program"" so the statements were congruent with the options for deployment and got nothing, which makes me think that they will be revamping their program. My guess, and speaking with others who also are outsiders, would be that they will redeploy in Azure for the tie in with O365. We have been testing integrated login with Azure AD Federated services and should be providing that in Q3 2018.

This had NOTHING to do with the mechanics of actual deployment. Just a general platitude that it was quick and easy. At break, I discussed the confusion of a ""real cloud"" and the ""Sage cloud"". Presenter said he picked up on that as well and will wick with Sage to resolve the confusion in future sessions.

Sage 100 Cloud installation is actually simple enough to script in a standardized environment. You just need enough volume to make it worthwhile.

I wish I had something cute to say. Sage has tried implementing a cloud for 6 years that I know about and it hasn't worked. I wish I would have come up with the ""cloud"" moniker like I-BN Cloud...wait a minute, Gary did that 19 years ago!
