Sage Partner Due Diligence

  • 1.  Sage Partner Due Diligence

    Posted 09-04-2019 17:45

Is everyone else getting these? What the flip? (as @Wayne Schulz is known to say)

It almost seems like a phishing exercise, it's so clunky.

When do I get to do a Due Diligence of Sage?

I don't understand why they need our birth date and residential address?  I've been with Sage nearly 27 years now and don't see why they need that information.  I have nothing to hide but I don't think that is necessary and sent an email asking why.

@Kathy Purkiss - I said the same thing!  It makes no sense at all as to why they need to know the percentage of stock each of the shareholders owns, their birth date and home address.  I filled mine out, but I haven't sent it and I'm waiting to see what happens if I don't send it.  And the fact that we could hurt Sage's reputation is laughable.  They're doing enough damage themselves - they don't need to worry about us!

If you click "Reply", does it come up with an @sage.com  address?  (Or check the email properties).  "From" can be spoofed, but if they want the information via email the "Reply To" address would have to be where they want it sent.
The wording seems harsh for an official email, and screams "scam" to me.  I'd be very wary of the attachments until the source is verified.

Rosie is legit - I'd verify the reply email but I'm guessing this is part of some global Sage push.

I found this code of conduct on Sage's site -- https://www.sage.com/en-us/-/media/files/sagedotcom/master/documents/pdf/sage-partner-code-of-conduct.pdf

The code seems so generic that I'm having trouble figuring what Sage is looking for other than to check off some compliance boxes?

@Kevin Moyes and @Kathy Purkiss - that's where my head is - it seems so intrusive and so awkward, both in what was requested and how they requested it, that it seems like a phishing exercise.

I was expecting them to request my social and my mother's maiden name.

It's freaking bizarre to just push this out to the channel with no context except "FILL THIS OUT OR WE ARE GONNA KICK YOU OUT OF OUR OUR PROGRAM!!!!"

Remember the days when Sage pretended to care? We all knew they were full of it back then, but now I'm kind of thinking those were the good ol' days!

If any of us did this with our customers, they would tell us (rightly) to take a hike.

Not that any of us would do anything like this in the first place.

Let's go conspiracy theory. @Wayne Schulz - could you see something like this being used to polish up the turd for sale?

I would think if it was legit it would be mentioned in the emails about what is new on the Sage partner portal that most of us can't get into yet...and if it does manage to be legit and they ask why no response:  "It looked like a phishing expedition".

I sent an email yesterday to Rosie and asked why they need our birth dates an residential address and haven't received a response.  What do you think the shelf life is on this request?  My email says as soon as possible.  Did you notice where the email states, "As part of our processes we will conduct due diligence inquiries (including financial inquiries) based on the information that you provide?  By completing and returning the form containing the information we have requested, you consent to us carrying out such checks as we deem necessary."  That seems to be a blanket statement allowing them to do both a business and personal financial inquiry any time they deem necessary since we are providing them with this information.  And of course, if we don't comply, we are in breech of contract and it's goodbye old friend...

Thanks for the update. Please let us know what the response is.

Everything about this was mishandled and is offensive including the clause you mention. And the "comply OR ELSE!!' language.

We are customers of Sage. What company would treat their customers like this?! They re in desperate need of a partner- and customer-focused paradigm shift to help them secure their future.

They continue to drive partners out the door to friendlier vendors.

Nobody wants to answer, they were told not to, or they don't know.
Emails can be ignored, but a "public" posting in a forum is not as easy to sweep under the rug.  Perhaps something like this:
"To me this communication looks like a scam, and to avoid infection with a crypto-virus from suspicious attachments I will be ignoring these demands.  If it is indeed a legitimate request for information from Partners, please post the requirements on a trusted resource like the new Sage Partner Hub".

We have had in the past, marketing/phishing scams, that look to have come from Sage but had not.  Having met with the Membership Committee, we've confirmed from Celina Oliver this is a legitimate notification, from Sage UK.  It seems it may be related to some new/updated legislation from EU.  We are seeking clarification, and any confirmation of action or explanation will be shared with the group.

While 90 Minds may from time to time discover, share, confer, or communicate information related to Sage and Sage Partnership programs, every member is encouraged to seek their own professional advice.

Here is the full T&C that all members agree to before their first log in to 90 Minds Higher Logic site:

    Terms and Conditions

Community Rules & Etiquette and Privacy Guidelines

Thank you for being part of our community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. Questions should be directed to our member services department via the Contact Us link on this site.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact the member services department. In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violate these rules.

    The Rules

      • Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there's no such thing as a stupid question.

      • Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. If you've found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in a respectful way.

      • Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups and in the libraries is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.

      • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

      • Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.

      • When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It's also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.

      • Post your message or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."

    Discussion Group Etiquette

      • State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

      • Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.

      • Do not send administrative messages, such as "remove me from the list," to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your settings.

    ???

What the heck is the "Dow Jones" and why would I want my information being available in it? The only Dow Jones I know of is the Stock Market index.

There is no way a vendor needs my birthdate and residential address.

Am I the only one thinking this is nuts? Particularly in a GDPR world where there is a push to allow people to control the information about themselves.

@Kathy Purkiss  pretty sure they meant to say Dun & Bradstreet not Dow Jones,  that is the info I was given.

I doubt anyone even looks at this.
It's another order from Sage Group PLC that Sage NA is carrying out which may -- or probably not -- have any relevance to the North American practice.  I think this is a checklist item on someone's task list and not much more.

Also, this info was posted in the Sage Partner Hub though I can't say how long ago.
