🚨🚨Sage KB Caution

  • 1.  🚨🚨Sage KB Caution

    Posted 07-25-2023 09:25

Use caution with the Sage KB. I'm not sure what's happening or whether I'm just doing bad searches (see example here).

I met with Sage to discuss / clarify what happened with the KB and since then it's been <<<<<crickets chirping>>>>>> to my follow-up question of why some articles appear in what I'll call "Old KB" and not in "New KB".

When you are searching for support articles it is possible you now have to search two knowledgebases. I'm VERY uncomfortable with the silence by Sage and presume with the company's lack of focus on Sage 100 they have little to no incentive to improve or maintain their knowledge.

Heads up-- this may be the start of a downturn with Sage and the Sage 100 KB.

Another example - not specifically related to new/old KB -  is that KB articles around this classic error ( stop me if you've run into this a million times or two) - Error: "Unable to cast COM object of type" when printing in Sage 100 2017 and earlier versions after installing Sage 100 2018 or later versions - seem to have been removed or greatly condensed.

At one point there was an article ( maybe there still is and I'm searching incorrectly ) that had the pvxwin32.exe.config file attached.

This knowledge is going away and as Sage personnel exit stage left the people coming in behind them don't have the experience to understand why some of this type of KB information should stay. And I think the issue is only going to grow as more people leave.

I haven't been able to find these articles for a while.

And, I understand "but these are no longer supported versions". And that's correct.

However, the business reason that the articles should be in the KB even though they related to an outdated version is when companies upgrade from Old Sage 100 to NEW Sage 100 versions they likely have a short period of time when they want to check their work. That means you have old/new Sage on their desktop and would need to use the instructions to fix any Crystal compatibility issues.

The new KB can open articles in a new tab (which is nice) but the search algorithm seems worse... I don't know if the articles are missing, or just not found.

I can't tell either. I asked Sage and got no response which I'm taking as an early-warning bad sign. Sage might polish this up and within a week/month/year it'll be way better than the old KB. For now, I am looking at making a lot of notes on existing KB articles that I reference regularly.

Best to share our concerns with Sage... posted this to the "Partners" section, to keep the discussion from public eyes.

Greetings 90 Minds Community - I hope this finds you well.

Wayne – Thank you for your acknowledgement of Kathleen Fortner in your newsletter last week commending her for committing an hour to answer your questions regarding Sage Knowledgebase.

I've informed Kathleen of your 7/25 post. She has confirmed that your email came in over the weekend regarding the matter that you've outlined. Kathleen will be reaching out to respond accordingly.

As with any technology change/advancement there will be hurdles to overcome despite our best efforts to mitigate impact at go-live. Please continue to work with us during transitions and provide us with an opportunity to work collaboratively. We understand that change can be frustrating but it is inevitable. I assure you that we are committed to strengthening our partnerships and your experiences with every interaction with Sage.

We remain committed to our mutual customers, our entire partner community, and Sage 100 North America.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance regarding this matter.

    Best,

    Dianetta King

Sr. Product Marketing Manager, Sage 100

    Thanks, Dianetta.

Exceptional customer service is our bread and butter and I maintain my caution rating around the KB and continue to strongly urge the 90 Minds group to gather backup materials core to key knowledge concepts. I continue to maintain that as knowledge leave Sage, this group and our firms that a current investment in separately documenting key topics will be worth the effort.

So, apparently 2023.1 has been released but doesn't show on the downloads page. I have been watching for it there.

I just so happen to be working on a new implementation (2023) and the Information Center showed this:

Cool. So I head over to Sage 100 - Sage Download Center and it isn't there.

Okay, maybe that page hasn't been updated yet. So, go to the 2023 full product page and no reference to PU1 is there either.

That's weird, maybe it hasn't really been released yet. I open up my demo 2023 and the click on that message and it takes me to Sage City where a link exists to get PU1.

The article is dated 7/20, so this has been released for a week and still doesn't show on the Downloads page or the 2023 full product page!

So, 2 KBs to look for AND you have to check Sage City too. Are there any other secret places one has to look for information?
