Sage Intelligence - speed issue. I have a client that is complaining that Sage Intelligence reports are extremely slow (over 30 minutes to generate). They are on Sage100 Standard version 2016. They are also complaining about Sage100 crystal reports being slow. We picked this client up some time ago and I'm talking to them about switching from Standard to Advanced so they can user the CS ODBC functionality for the crystal reports; but frankly I don't know how Sage Intelligence connects to the Sage Data. Does it use ODBC? if so will the CS ODBC make any difference for Sage Intelligence?

SI pulls data across the network but not sure if thru odbc. We don't configure an odbc connection during setup . Do they have a TS that youi can move the license to or even install excel and SI on the server to see if a network issue? Are they wired to lan or wireless?

I have customer that uses SI extensively. The following improved their experience: 1. Up the RAM, at least 8 GB or as much as they can afford. 2. 64-bit Excel 3. Clear the cache/temp files on a regular basis. Reboot workstation at least weekly. 4. Use all cores for processing - Excel, options, advanced, under multi-thread and turn ""use all processors"" 5. Under Excel options, check the trust center settings allow network connections.

I always hate it when you spend a bunch of time troubleshooting speed issues only to find out that client is connected via wireless. Since they were an orphan, check out the cabling. If they are on a 100 MB wired connection, suggest they put in a GB switch. Do they have the NAV exclusions set properly? Easy test for speed is to run a dog Crystal report on the server to see if there is a speed pickup.

Let's start at the beginning before we diagnose. How big are the files they are reporting on?

I agree, I have a call scheduled with them tomorrow and plan to find that out and dig deeper, I appreciate all the input thus far, at least I have a bit more knowledge going into the discussion.

We had a similar experience with a customer we hadn't had much interaction with in years. When we started digging, we discovered they had never posted a bank rec, had not closed any sub-modules, and had never closed a period in the GL. We got them agree to close through 2016 and shazam, the system speed issues slowly began to improve as they progressed with the closings.

Here is what we found from our discussions. They do have quite a bit of data and the report that they are running in Sage intelligence is rather complex (8 worksheets in excel with 8 different financial reports being generated). Our SI guru found that the repository was on a server where Sage 100 was previously installed and was never moved when Sage100 was moved to a new faster server. Moving the repository to the new server helped considerably. although we are not sure just yet if we have totally resolved everything, time will tell.

@DavidOverholt I really appreciate you closing the loop on the discussion and recording what you did to resolve the issue. It helps bring clarity and greatly increases the value of these discussion strings for archival purposes.
