Sage Getting (Back) Into The Professional Services Game?

Never mind for the moment that this notice appears to conflict with Sage's recent updates about 2020.1 being OAuth compatible, the following KB appears to offer up Sage's services for upgrades.

My guess is that this is outsourced but seems to mark a return of Sage professional services

It might be a typo in the product name.  Summary refers to Sage 300...?

I wonder if users OK if they are on a 2020 or lower and are not using MS Exchange?  So I need to do an upgrade every two days between now and October or my customer's customers can't get invoices emailed to them?

I expect an SMTP relay will still be an option, for those who become desperate.

The thing to remember is there are now two gotchas:

    1. OAuth and Microsoft's requirement to adopt it by 10/1/22 ( as of today that means Sage 100 2021+ which have OAuth capabilities )
    2. Sage's change of their licensing server to require TLS 1.2 ( which I believe is only supported by 2019+)

Sage is recommending/stating to upgrade to a supported version.
If the customer is going to upgrade there is little reason not to upgrade them to as current a version as feasible

The second issue also is going to play out in 2023 when WO goes EOL so any customers who will require an upgrade should begin planning ASAP or risk having to rush into PM or upgrade to 2021 ( 2022 if they request WO keys separately )

Thanks for pointing the licensing impact out more specifically Wayne!  The original notice from Sage implied the TLS announcement was linked to the email issue (by being in the same notice as the M$ OAuth issue).
Sage should really have worded that better to make it clear that their licensing service is the critical issue with the sunset of TLS 1.0 & 1.1...
I wonder if Perpetual licenses (in a disaster recovery situation) are validated during the reinstall... meaning older versions become much more risky after Sage starts enforce TLS 1.2 for licensing.

Does anyone know if Sage is pushing this information to customers via email and/or phone calls, or is the customer expected to find this information on a web site, or are we supposed to know all of this information and then pass it on to the end user?

Sage claims that they will be notifying customers starting this week.

My observation with Sage is that they seldom notify customers when there is bad news. Instead they let the channel deal with it.

Noteworthy in this update is that Sage Expert Services is making an appearance. My guess is that this will be some type of outsourcing to one of the BPAC level partners.

My .02 - Sage Expert Services is a great place to send orphans who want to know why their upgrade from 3.7x will take so long and cost so much.

@Wayne Schulz  If we didn't have you doing the detective work, none of us would know about these issues until the licensing servers started shutting customer systems down.

You are right @Doug Higgs I don't know how @Wayne Schulz has the time and energy to do his detective work,
By doing the change to TSL that Sage says is more secure, will we be able to do without the laundry list of antivirus exclusions that we have right now???
It will be an interesting roundtable tomorrow.

X-Ref - Sage has issued a (confusing) FAQ marked Do Not Distribute to Customers in the Sage Partner Hub which provides some additional Q&A around this issue.

TL;DR - Customers are most likely going to need to upgrade to 2021 or 2022. Technically you can argue for a lower version but I think Sage will hibernate on this issue and let you fall on your sword. My recommendation is play a safety and recommend 2022 where possible and let the customer override the decision and if there is an issue they can call Sage directly to complain.
