92% of Sage CRE signed up to be Sage Intacct partners.  And if 39 partners are dual authorized, does this indicate that the CRE partner channel is small?

Not really. To keep the current S100 customers, they want to get them to a connected cloud, like yours, and then on to Intacct when ready. BUT they think the new Sage customers will go directly to native cloud Intacct. So I-bn-style cloud is a waystation.

IMHO - They could really use more energy for a partner meeting.  This is supposed to motivate and excite the partners about how we can be successful with Sage.  Most of the content is very consistent with other publishers, talking heads and research firms about the current direction of the market towards SaaS.
Sage strategy to meet the customer where they are.
I always believe that the only fool is the huckster who takes a customer as a fool for eventually the customer learns and adapts.  Subscription as a money grab is not of value, and cloud for cloud's sake adds no value.  Combining with AI and leaving Covid out of the picture other than it forced some changes in behavior, the advent of computing power in the cloud can provide value.
Factors accellerating the drive to digital transformation
Whether the required compute power and access to data is cloud based or not is relatively irrelevant to the business owner.  It is just easier today in the cloud.  It is the new mainframe and will be the direction until power can be distributed to the new decentralized model (whenever that occurs).
How does Digital Transformation help customers?Unfortunately, most of the buzzwords have little tangible value readily understood by our customer base.  What value is ther to a network that enables customers to work digitally across their ecosystems?  Can't we just say that customers can have self service to receive, review, and pay their invoices?  That we can provide access to the vendor's inventory and prices from within our software?

The real question is Sage's business model the right one.  Aaron Harris is pitching the Sage ID as the unique digital identity for individuals and organizations.
Digital relationships managed through a Sage ID

At I-BN we have focused on the Azure AD as we know the I-BN user ID will not win the day.  So by using tools to drive synchronization with a Microsoft ID we can provide single sign on to our platform.  Whether Sage or SAP is the core ERP is also not as relevant as the ability to be "Cloud Connected" to EDI, Webstores like Amazon or Shopify, and connect to APS or PAYA, Netstock or whomever is best for the customer is what creates the leverage Aaron talks about.  Sage has a history of picking very good partners, but also partners who compensate them the best as opposed to serving the customer best.

As a business advisor, our jobs are to find solutions that meet the needs of our target market.  Sage and other publishers recognize that micro-verticalization is the key to understanding and properly serving the customers.
    Sage Industry Focus
This morning's session spoke about getting deeper than the horizontals on the graphic they put up, but the heavy lifting is left to us.  I am sorry but Intacct will not be the answer to all industries.  The middleware tools Sage picks for their business cloud may be very good, but will they really build the best selection of tools in their developer portal?  Sage has delivered better recently with Bank Feeds, PAYA and Payroll services which work.  Will best of breed partners choose Sage?  Hopefully yes, but are we ready to buy into the next framework (I remember BIF the Best Integration Framework).

I have yet to see an on-premise software developer or financial aggregator of software companies succeed in making a business cloud that not self serving as opposed to customer serving.  In that regard I feel great about the future of my company.

Very valid commentary, Gary. I agree that your company has a great future.

To a large degree, existing Sage 100 customers (those who have not yet left to greener pastures) have a different way of thinking than those who jump into Intacct. This applies to their thinking about the connected services, too.

And using SageID as the core entry point does seem far from a no-brainer.

This is all about Sage attempting to regain the first position with their partners. They want to be the first solution that a partner offers when a new sales opportunity presents itself. And for many of those opportunities, the customer will be looking for a pure SaaS offering. They may not always buy pure SaaS but they almost always look at it.

I think Gary as always is right on with his overall analysis.

Whether Sage is successful or not at this latest strategy the writing is clearly on the wall that the software publishers want to make money on the license/subscription and they want the partner/VAR to make money on consulting.

IMO, as a VAR/consultant, there is no business model in purely selling and collecting a commission. It's all about creating a recurring revenue stream that the VAR themselves can control and not relying on that ever-shrinking commission rate being paid by publishers. This will mean specializing in specific industries or solutions where you add enough value to the customer that they are willing to pay a recurring fee.

And this is across the entire ERP market. It's not only Sage it's all ERP publishers who are headed in this direction.

Regarding the home video studio, this is a major event for Sage.  As Bob brought up, you need a better background, a camera that is at eye level (Ian Howells is pitiful) and a quality microphone.  Imagine if they are on the stage at Summit and they are 20 feet above the audience and standing in the shadows.  This is all media 101.  Search the internet for tips!!!!

I'm still stuck back on this Sage Business Cloud- which is pretty darn clever, and I can see is great for Sage in terms of collecting data and in terms of keeping customers on Sage products by really embedding into their systems.  But it's hard to picture it working for real customers, because certainly only some of their vendors or customers would have Sage ID's and swap EDI with them that way, and I'm picturing alot of set up going into setting that dialog up and troubleshooting it.

I wonder about that too, @Lourdes Sobrino.  You can add an image background for your computer camera to almost all meeting software now, generally by going to advance options and selecting 'background image'.

That may be too technical, though.

Kinda makes you wonder if you want to take advice from Sage C Level Execs on future tech directions?

IMO they said more clearly what they've put between the lines in the past: Sage's future is all Intacct-X3, so everything else feeds into that. Given Sage 100's technical limitations (no native web UI) for true cloud hosting, this should surprise nobody.

It was only 10 months ago that they projected a lot of Sage 100/300 (now "BMS") optimism in the Thrive On tour. They were insistent that NCA for Sage 100/300 was important. I have no inside info on this, but I think their sales results from the marketing for this product line forced a rethink on that. Maybe tomorrow will have a different message on my conclusion; we'll see.

This is a tricky dance for them to do. Without actively courting and winning new Sage 100 customers it is harder to convince wavering customers that should stick longer regardless of the connected services. Intacct is a great product if you don't have inventory or mfg and X3 is more expensive and complicated than many current Sage 100 mfg customers need. (I know Intacct has added some inventory capabilities, but it will take a while to gain confidence.) The connected services offered through Sage Cloud are hardly unique connections and can be recreated as easily (or more so?) in non-Sage solutions so I don't see that as being terribly "sticky."

In this environment, I suspect that most of the new enhancements for Sage 100 will be in the connected services (AP Automation, Inventory, AR Collections, etc) instead of native improvements. Which is fine, except it increases bitching about "what do I get for my maintenance/subscription?"

So we are led right back to Wayne's central point: partners need to have services/IP (not break-fix) that bind a customer to them. I think 90 Minds is an ideal group to help everybody do that. But it is a bit different from what we've focused on in the past.

Anybody have further thoughts about this?

    IMHO

One way for us as consultants to Thrive On regardless of product is to pick a micro market with sufficient volume or proximity for us to specialize in.   We have picked 9 SIC codes within a general category which I like to call a diagonal for our software sales practice.  All need advanced unit of measure with lot tracking, cost by lot, landed costs (potentially multiple), typically some light assembly and often installation services.  We have been building solutions that rough the edges off the endearing qualities of the ERP and integrating with the bar code, credit card, websites and soon customer portals that will make the solution more complete.

Then make your three packages for value engineering and be ready to tailor it to make your knowledge less dispensable.   And of course, we won't complain and may even assist getting it cloudy.

Since they have tier involved in the movement of Sage 100 and Sage 300, it'd probably be a good idea to find an Intacct partner to work with.  Also, I've heard horror stories of Intacct sales reps registering clients as theirs and if a client decides to move to Intacct and it's already on an Intacct sales reps' list, your SOL.  Again, I heard that, not sure how true it is.

Bob, the Intacct direct-sales stories you hear are real. AFAIK, even the large partners with Intacct in-house have trouble protecting their installed base. If there is a weak point in this Intacct-referral strategy, the lack of trust here will be it.

10 months after all the hype at Thrive On, I haven't seen even a small bone thrown to us about Sage 100 NCA. Not even a tease of a product roadmap.

I know the channel is now heavily weighted by larger partners and that they have different needs than smaller ones, so I might have this wrong. BUT I don't see how this cranks up Sage excitement among partners who don't carry Intacct.

@Jerry Norman I hear this for 'Sage 100 only' partners.  You now have all the tools you need to offer up your Sage 100 customers to become X3 or Intacct customers. Each sacrifice will be paid for in tier currency.

I think you have it, @Rhonda McNamara.

Even Angela's part in the end didn't mention marketing tools for partners promoting Sage 100. They probably have them, but ...

Here are the questions from the 10-28 Q&A:

Q: Can you elaborate on the pricing that includes the Azure platform. It looks like that will be billed separately in addition to the Sage license subscription. Is the Azure pricing less than what it would be if we deployed Azure and hosted the current Sage subscription

A: Sorry I should have clarified that. The price is for the software only. The cost for Azure is something that you purchase separately through the CSP. There is not a special price from Microsoft on this but they do have a rebate program for anyone that is certified on Azure.

Q: For Sage 100 Partner Cloud - what does "Includes Sage Support: Version Upgrades, etc." actually mean. Is Sage taking on this upgrade and support work directly as part of the subscription price? If so, I'm assuming the partner could sell standard licensing (along with Azure) and then add or bundle in our partner services rather than selling the Cloud subscription / Sage services?

A: Good question. No Sage won't be managing the upgrades. That will be the partner's responsibility.

Q: What is your strategy for promoting Sage 100 to NCA? Surely you're not giving up? Any updated product roadmap?

A: Our NCA demand gen strategy is not as product-focused as it is industry-focused. For example, there are programs going on now or in planning for campaigns into F&B and Chemicals.

Q: Are the Distribution and Manufacturing bundles that were only unveiled in early 2020 discontinued?
A: No. Those do still existing but the specific bundles are not included in the Partner Cloud Program at this time

Q: I love the concept of Sage Partner Cloud BUT keeping customers on the current release level is presently hampered by the product management of ISVs which is not forcing those ISVS ( including price list ISVs) to release at the same time as Sage. So it's virtually impossible to keep customers current. And that's before the issues that are occurring in the manufacturing area where releases are not being made for compatibility with the latest product updates. Given this environment it seems that all Partner Cloud will be able to offer is hosting vs a true "We keep you on the latest release"
A: We will have requirements that customers remain on the most recent version but there will obviously be a window of time to accomplish this. We are currently determining what that window will be and this issue related to ISVs is one of the variables being taken into consideration

Q: Can the customer choose any ISV application they want in the Azure platform

A: We haven't defined specific ISVs at this point but the ability to be able to include those is key to this offer. We are testing a few during the Beta now and will be looking for partners' assistance on this further as we roll out.

Q: Is the Sage Partner expected to get up to speed and be able to deploy and support Azure environments, windows Server, etc.?

A: It depends on what you mean by 'up to speed'. Our recommendation is to work with a CSP such as Insight to determine the roles and responsibility. The Sage Provisioning Portal will give you the tool to help with provisioning and managing the deployment. More information on this will be provided at the webinar in mid-November.

Q: How will ISV products affect SPC pricing?

A: ISV pricing doesn't change at this time. They are ala carte items

Q: Will this recording be sent to all in a slide presentation form?

A: Due to the confidentiality of the content, we will not be able to share the full deck but are happy to work with you on specific content - just reach out to your PAM and they can help coordinate.

Q: Hello! What makes a current Sage Intacct partner "eligible" to participate in the referral program other than having a current partnership with Intacct?

A: Eligibility is being determined by Peyton Burch and Nancy Sperry.

Angela Collins has the best webinar setup so far - she is framed nicely, good lighting, good camera, good audio, good background

Angela also "dressed" for a presentation.  None of the men "dressed" for the presentation.  I hope they wouldn't have dressed like that if they were presenting in a large live audience!

Angela seems to practice what marketing preaches: How the message looks defines whether the audience goes further. I look forward to seeing how does with the materials!
