  • 1.  Sage FAS Network v2022 Client Install

    Posted 02-18-2023 14:19

I don't work with FAS very often so my ignorance is going to show. A customer has been having a helluva time getting FAS to run consistently. The customer's IT staff installed the clients using a UNC path. FAS Chat support said that we need to create mapped drives on the workstations and run FAS via the mapped drive. Is there a way to switch the path on the clients other than uninstalling and reinstalling the client?

I can't answer the mapped drive question, I can tell you that uninstalling and reinstalling the FAS client is pretty easy and quick unless their network is slow.

I'm 100% useless as a FAS resource, but I've run across Scott Swarts at several Sage partner events in the past. If you get to a point where you need to tap an additional resource into the conversation, here's his information:

I'm NOT sure if this is it since I use mapped drives, but easy enough to look.

In regedit, go to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\wow6432node\Best Software\NWBESTSYSThere is a LOGICALNAME line that has a mapped drive from the SERVERS's point of view.  I *think* you just need to change it here.  I'm familiar with FAS, but I am not an expert.

Like the others said, it's easy enough to reinstall the client.  However, if it doesn't work and you get a SYBASE SQL Loop error when starting  (basically, it cannot connect to the client), #5 below is almost always is the answer:

    1. In the Registry of the Client system go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\wow6432node\Best Software\NWBESTSYS.
    2. Enter in the exact values from the server for ENGINENAME, LOGICALNAME
Note: The default and recommended connection path is the server's local drive letter path to the Bestsys. Do not use a mapped drive or UNC path.
      Example: C:\SFAServ\BESTSYS.DB.
    3. Check the Firewall on the Client. If the Windows Firewall is on, enter exceptions TCP Port 2638 for both Inbound and Outbound rules to allow the Client program through the firewall. See How to add firewall exceptions? for details.
    4. If the Sybase SQL Anywhere dialog appears again, select Next
    5. Select tcpip, Replace the X's from {HOST=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX} with the IP of the server and select Finish.

Thanks to all of you who responded! I've given the customer their options. They have an IT staff that has tight control over software installs so they will take it from here. I appreciate you!
