Sage direction - I think you are going to see for the future major sage developement going into areas of recurring revenue - so the next thing that Erica was pushing at the road show was the Sage Exchange - it sending emails of your invoices to customers and customers being able to pay off that email through a portal via credit card or electronic check. FYI-this writes back into cash receipts for you. They also are going to use the Sage Payments app for iphone so sales reps get payment via a credit card so they can continue to grow that additional revenue. I think at some point users should start arguing their software maintenance should be free if they are generating a ton of credit card fees back to sage.

Worth noting that Sage is going to sole source Sage Payments. If customers need to integrate credit cards to Sage - they will most likely be forced to use SPS. I would strongly urge everyone to avoid making any customer requested modifications to the software to hold the credit card info that Sage will soon remove. This is a super high liability area. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that it's ok to skirt the compliance rules and that so long as the customer says that they don't mind that you would avoid liability. When Sage moves away from allowing other CC processors and to storing the CC info outside of the software they will also stop certifying the product for compliance (Sage is very touchy about this and they will state that they are not required at that point to be certified). Because Sage will no longer store CC info in their software - some customers may ask for you to create a way for them to store it. The important issue for you to remember is that if you add back sensitive fields (think UDF ) and the customer has a data breach then you could potentially be liable for a material amount of money.

People tend to skirt the rules regardless. I have seen customers put the customer's 3-digit CVV code into the ""comment"" field on the credit card information.

Wayne's point is critical. If your fingerprints are on it anywhere and there is a data breach, pretty sure you are exposed legally. Get your disapproval of idea in writing and let customer do on their own.
