Sage Budgeting and Planning - anyone worked with it?

We have two customers using it in conjunction with Sage 500. It is functional and robust. However, it doesn't have the resource investment that Adaptive, Prophix, and Budget Maestro gets. I think that Adaptive is the best of the three but probably the most expensive as well.

Do you support it, or let Sage do the support?

I implemented one for a large customer a few years ago. The main challenge is that it is extremely difficult to learn to install, configure, and operate. They have contracted people who specialize in the product. Sage highly recommends that you let their specialists handle it all, including the support. I wasn't able to invest enough time to get to the point that I could support it. My customer became frustrated with it and eventually switched to Centage Budget Maestro.

Sage keeps saying the have a simplified wizard and have this on their timeline for 100c clients but it is difficult to nail them down. We have clients that could use a reasonably priced solution. I agree it looked pretty difficult to set up and ways always pretty pricey.

I have a user (large medical practice) who also took on Budget Maestro. So far as I know they are happy. I figure I'm not making a dime off any of the options so I try to gather info and move as far out of the way as possible.

I second Doug Leasure, we've worked with him on projects. I don't believe Sage offers support, they also recommend Doug.

Interesting. So Sage did a discovery call today with a Sage 100C client and told them that in March-ish, Sage Budget would be bundled with 100C - a main user and 3 viewers. So if every 100C user decided to investigate this, how overwhelmed will Sage be? Or Doug?

Unless things have really changed, Sage is putting little or no investment into their active planner, budgeting, or allocation product lines. Comparatively speaking, 100 is a golden child! We have worked with both Tom Sheridan (sheridan.thomas.james@gmail.com / (216) 296-0718) and Doug Leasure (Doug.P.Leasure@gmail.com / (724) 498-4404). Both do ok work but need good project management oversight. (Last budget project was 2.5 years ago and I don't recall which we used.) We have sold 3 budget and 2 allocation deals over the past 15 years. We don't do them ourselves. Doing something once every three or four years is not a tasty recipe for success! The next opportunity for budgeting that comes along will get referred to Adaptiveby way of Arxis Technology (now RKL). They are a 90 Minds Member.

@BethBowers Budget & Planning was on Sage's 2018.2 roadmap for March 2018 during Sessions in LA. I also seem to remember that at Summit Sage was waffling on exactly what would be included and IIRC, during Summit was saying something about Budget & Planning initially and maybe something else later?

Does anyone know if a client needs to be on v2018.2 in order to use Sage Budgeting and Planning (fka Active Planner) or can they be on any version as long as they're using 100c (cloud)? Apparently Sage is rolling Budgeting and Planning into 100c with some free licenses. However, this seems similar to what they attempted to do with Sage CRM, i.e. here's free licenses but it'll take 50hr+ to set it up.

No, they do not have to be on 2018, I have a 100c V2017 client using it.
